Well, a couple days ago I headed out to my LFS to find some platy..
And came home with Neko!
She is a small, orange mickey mouse platy..
And she was bursting!
So after a couple days of impatient waiting,
I came home from school and found small little fish swimming around my plants!
I immediately grabbed my net and caught everyone I saw..

And in total, I had found 9.

Nine fry is pretty small, but so is Neko, so I guess thats why. I think she originally had 11, and my fat likes-to-overeat female ate a couple...

Grrr.

But now nine happy little fry are swimming around a breeder trap in my tank!
I'm feeding them powder staple food, and half an algae wafer for a treat. Kind of like power food I suppose.
They are three days old now, and happily swimming around!

Ah, I love fish.

Thanks. But answers never go without questions! :3

All of them have that little large fin that female platy's do, but I'm just wondering if they keep this till they are maybe one week of age, then you can sex them?

And.. um.. It isn't going to be possible to keep every fry in my tank, so what should I do with the remaining fry? I have nine, I'm keeping three... and giving one to my friend (she has a 5gal with glowlight tetras [3] and guppies [2], so I decided i'll give her only one). So that leaves five fry left!

And I doubt that anybody lives in BC, Canada.. so I cant really give them to anybody.

Can you give them to LFS?

You will not be able to sex platies for at least a month BettaLuv. When the fish are about an inch long, it is often possible to tell the gender of fry but before that they all look female. Even at that size, they can be difficult to pick out for the inexperienced fish keeper. Knowing the difference from pictures and experience with adults is not the same as seeing the difference in an immature male. The differences are a bit more subtle than with an adult.

Thanks OldMan.

You sure do know a lot about fry :good:

Ah, and please call me mac ^^

Now and then I deal with a few fry of my own Mac.

I don't worry too much about mollies and fry. They are not nearly as carnivorous as many livebearers are.
