Hi all.

Looking forward to getting to know you.

I am looking to get a tank for my partner.
We are both very much novices at keeping fish.

I would love advice on what tank to get.

I have been looking at between 65L to 110L, but I do have a budget of £120.00

So could I please pick your brains as what is best to get, and where around Wigan is the best place to go.

I will be posting a lot once we are all set up.

Hi there welcome to the forum and the hobby!

I would go as big as you can! And dont be afraid to go second hand with the tank your money will go a lot further, there is a classifieds section on this website perhaps there is someone on there that will be able to sell you one? Or of course there is the local paper and ebay but also a website dedicated to sale of fish stuff and fish which is aquarist classifieds.

I believe there is a really good fish shop in Wigan like a nationally well known one but its name totally escapes me right now.... Im sure someone will know though few members from your area.

One of the most important things you need to learn about now is the nitrogen cycle and how you want to do it in your tank. Getting this cycle right is the most important thing in fish keeping, if you go to the begginers resources section in the my new tank part of the forum you will find articles on fish in and fish less cycling. I would strongly advise you to do a fishless cycle as it is much easier than the fish in cycle means you dont have to deal with any death or disease early on where as the fish in cycle will mean you add fish sooner but it involves lots of water changes and also leaves your fish open to the risk of disease and death. So have a read of those two articles and see what you think :)
