Im just wondering if my little Platy, Margene is Pregnant. She has been hiding low and in the plants of our tank and acting somewhat "antisocial" compared to the other platys. I have placed her in a breeding trap but i am still not 100% sure if she is pregnant. I don't want to stress her out and leave her in there if she isn't ready to give birth.

Should I leave her in here? How long should I leave her in there? Can anyone help me?!

Thanks, again!

Here is a Photo of her.

Yes she is pregnant but she's a bit hard to see. I suggest you take her out of the trap right now as they stress the fish out quite a bit, sometimes to the point of death :(
If you want to save the fry I suggest either buying extra plants for them to hide in, trying to scoop them unto the trap once she gives birth, buying a breeder tank around 10 gallons, or placing her in the trap but only at the perfect time.

yeah, she is somewhat calming down in the trap. I think I might keep her in there for a 24 hours and if nothing I shall release her into the open waters!

Sound advice and mine would've been the same....... except that IMO..... there is no perfect time to move her to a breeding trap..... I support the 10 gall breeder tank idea. You'll be a lot more succesful that way - I still do not understand why breeding traps are still being sold......

I hate traps as well but I felt I needed to say something positive about them. I have a 10 gallon for my fry. :good:

yeah I am not a fan of traps either, I think I am going to release her today

Make sure you don't leave her in there longer than 24-36 hours. My sunburst platy is giving birth and I assume I'll have about 5 survive in my tank.
