am so excited!!! :hyper: my husband and i finally get a honeymoon and weve decided to go on a good old fashioned american road trip :good:

my dad passed away a couple of months ago and the will went through this week and dad left us money that we were to go on a honeymoon with amongst other things :)

so weve decided to fly into vegas and hire a car and travel to denver, kansas, memphis (cause i HAVE to see graceland :)), new orleans and houston. then we're going to fly to new york for a while then off to london. im excited about the trip but im excited to check out american lfs' and their fish and maybe see what these walmart and petco etc places are like (more how much they suck really...from what ive heard anyways :))

so, anyone who lives near any of these places, if you could give me a locals idea of some cool things to do. we're not going through a travel agent so we dont have any help with these kinds of things. got three weeks to travel 3000kms so there will be lots of time to do heaps of stuff :)

Congrats :hyper: :wizard: :- . Can we do anything for you?

Sorry about your dad passing.

...it sounds like you're going to have one amazing honeymoon! What are you wanting to check out and do? Tours, museums, aquariums, amusement parks, etc.?

I agree, it sounds pretty awesome! A little surprising that you would wanna visit America for your honeymoon, but hopefully you find it inviting! I would definately check out walmarts if you want a bit of an eye opener on fish keeping, although I've read they are scaling back on which stores have the fish departments so you never know.... Petco's and Petsmarts aren't that bad in most cases, but just like any LFS you will find nasty ones.

Good luck with the trip! You should definately be visiting california though! There's so much to see! :p

Sorry about your dad R.I.P.
Sounds fantastic have a good time.

I wish I got to go to America for my honeymoon! I was supposed to go to the Bahamas but got pregnant and we didnt make it there because I didnt want to fly.

SOrry about you dad.

Have fun.

well as with every other place i visit, if it has an aquarium i have to see it lol aside from that we want to really experience as much as we can. we both enjoy horse riding so i was hoping to fit that in somewhere. would love to check out museums and stuff that talk a little about the local history too.

we chose america for a number of reasons. both dad and myself are huge elvis fans and he wanted to go to graceland before he died but his cancer progressed to quick and he died much sooner than expected. i think its fitting to visit graceland with the money. then we thought we cant just go all the way there and not go and see the other things we want to and seeing as we have always wanted to do a road trip across america we decided to do it :) we said the places we both wanted to go and decided on a route from that :)

we're skipping LA as i have been there before and while hubby wouldnt mind going to disneyland we are still not rolling in money so we had to choose the things we most wanted to see. half the money we have goes on damn airfares then you lose the rest with the exchange rate. if it wasnt going to be winter when we are there we would buy a tent and camp all the way along :) but we're from the tropics and i have a feeling we are both going to we a tad on the cold side lol

Hey Fishlette, I'm sorry to hear about your dad, but you are going to have a great time on your travels! I'm a frequent traveler, so I can offer you a couple of tips.

In Denver, you'll want to check out the aquarium restaurant. As U.S. aquariums go, it's not amazing, and it's basically a just neat way to get you to eat in their restaurant, but it's fun to do once. You can see the aquarium all around you as you eat... though I'm fundamentally opposed to ordering sea food at an aquarium!

In my opinion, the best thing about Colorado is the beautiful Rocky Mountains. Too bad they probabably won't have any snow left on them when you get there.

New Orleans is great, too. Hurricane Katrina wiped out some areas (I think there are still tours of the devastion. I highly recommend it) but the French Quarter was virtually untouched. You HAVE to eat breakfast one morning at Cafe Du Monde! There's also a tour company called Grayline Tours; everything they offer is great. There are some bus tours and some walking tours (there's a cemetery tour that's pretty cool -- around halloween they do a haunted tour, too --. The city's below seal level, so you can't put a casket in the ground. Everything's above ground.... it's pretty neat looking). EDIT: oh yeah -- Aquarium of the Americas is in New Orleans, too!!

New York... welcome to my side of the country! You definitely won't have trouble finding something to do there!

That's it for now... safe travels!!
