I feel like giving it all up..I'm having terrible luck lately. Yesterday I found my male peacock gudgeon dead ( guy where I got him from says he thinks he had something internal going on because there was nothing wrong with him on the outside) and now today I couldn't find my female so I search and search around the tank and still can't see her so I take everything out of the tank and still shes nowhere to be found. :dunno:

I can't think of how she got out..the lid was on the tank the whole day...the only way she could of jumped out was through the small part that sticks out of the cover for the cords to go down. I can't find her anywhere on the floor..it seems as though my cat ate her :-(

So on top of that I'm dealing with fin rot in a couple of my tanks. In one of the tanks a new female ram brought it in ..in the other 2 I'm thinking dead plants brang it on and fouled the tank as no new fish have been added to those tanks.

I'm just feeling very overwhelmed :-( :-(

Sorry to hear this, yes they can get through the gaps, it happened to me once, is it bacterial finrot.

They can get through even the smallest whole in the top like the ones where the heater goes in. I lost a betta that way. He jumped through a hole that's only about 1" wide. I found him on the floor when I got home from work. Also, depending on what other fish you have, she probably died and was eaten by the other fish. Even the most peaceful fish will generally eat another fish once it is dead. I know it gets discouraging at times. I hope things turn around for you. Good luck.

I guess she must of jumped out through the area where the cords go. It isn't even half and inch wide. She would of had to gotten up near the filter current and jumped weird enough to get through. It's the first time a fish of mine did this as all my tanks hoods are the same.

I know she wasn't eaten as I saw her a couple hours ago. It must of just happened within an hour or two. I feel sick thinking about my cat eating her alive.

I'm just so sad :-(

Sorry R.I.P.

Thanks everyone.

I didn't mean it when I wrote that I was about to give up. I wont ever give up fishkeeping...I love it too much. I'm just having a really hard time right now. I don't understand why everything has to come all at once. I haven't had to deal with diseases or fish losses in a very long time. And now this had to happen on top of everything else. I was overwhelmed with treating the fish for fin rot and now this has really pushed me over. I guess I was long overdue for a good cry

Unfortunately, we have all lost fish. As long as we learn from our mistakes we will be able to prevent it from happening again. I would have never dreamed that my betta could have or would have jumped through the tiny hole but he did. I have since tried to cover any opening in any of my hoods or tops.

I am so sorry about your lil' fish. I know sometimes it seems like everything that can go wrong does go wrong and it usually all happens at once. It can be so overwhelming, especially when you lose a beloved pet. Just know that we are all here for you and if you need to cry our shoulders are here for you!

Yeah I've learned from it alright. I just need to find some kind of plastic and cut it out to fit right so that the cords can still go through.

I'm trying to figure out the meaning of all of this happening at once but I dont think there is a meaning. The day before yesterday I bought a filter and I thought I checked that everything was in the box while I was in the store. Turns out I didn't check well enough because when I got home 30-40 mins later I see that I am missing the cap piece and it wont work without it. So I had to make another trip the next day back to the store..something I didnt want to do. It's like why couldn't I see it was missing to begin with

The ones that you can't figure out what you did wrong are the worst of all. About 2 months ago I did a normal water change, cleaned the filter and moved a few things around in my 29 gallon tank. The inhabitants at that time were 5 each of red-eye tetras, serpae tetras, pristilla tetras and 4 corys. I got up the next morning to find all 5 red-eyes floating. I removed them and put them in a q-tank but they died anyway. Everyone else was and still is fine. I have yet to figure out what killed all of the red-eyes and didn't seem to bother anyone else. And red-eyes are as hardy as they come. Three of them actually had been in the tank through cycling. It's hard to learn from mistakes if you don't know what the mistake was. It will get better for you. Keep your head up.
