I've had this Cichlid for a very long time and he started looking very poorly about 2 weeks ago. His friend died a few months back from a bacterial infection that wouldn't heal.

I can't put my finger what is wrong with this fellow. He sits at the back of the tank with his fins down, rarely eats (always used to eat plenty) and looks lop sided when he tries to swim and ends up going round in circles.

He was breathing heavy last week but is breathing okay now. I thought he may have a waterbladder problem, but he only seems to lose control when he tries to swim.

Any ideas?

Stats in ammonia,nitrite,nitrate,and ph.
Sadly another bacterial infection, swim bladder once it progressed hard to treat, laying to one side, difficult to get of the subsrate, laying up side down, and even laboured breathing.
Check to see what it look like when he goes to the toilet, and is he bloated up as well.
What do you feed your fish as to many dried foods can lead to it.
I would try some shelled peas on him.

Ammonia = 0
Nitrite = 0
Nitrate = 20-30
ph = 7.5

Is there any way to treat him? I have some swim bladder medicine.

Once it has progressed no, my goldfish is dying now, he's on his back, so know how you feel.

Today I saw him eating again, he came out of his hidy hole and was trying to catch blood worms which was a real struggle for him as he can't manouvre easily.

If he's eating again is there any chance he can be saved? I have Interpet Anti Internal Bacteria med. WOuld this not help?

Might try a bunch of water changes and see if pristine water will improve it's health.. every 2 days do like 30% and see if it perks up. It's a good sign if it's eating.

Well i acted fast by adding salt, and a bacterial med, and he's on a pea diet and he's back to normal, but i putting him on a diet.
