Okay, maybe not an 'emergency' but it seems like the right place to post.

For the last week I've had a Neon Tetra swim around like it's tail heavy (nose up) and unable to float without actively swimming. It's colours are not as bright as they used to be and strangely, it seems not to be able to close it's mouth any more.

The tail heavy bit seems to come an go. When it IS tail heavy, it seems to be making trips to the surface to gulp air - none of the other fish are doing this so I'm guessing it's not a lack of air in the tank.

Do these symptoms make sense to any one?

Does the red stripe area look bleached out.
Open mouth can mean something lodged in its mouth or has a sore in his mouth.
If it looks like the tail is weighing the fish down that can be swim bladder.
Does the fish look bloated.
He sounds in a really bad way to me and he might not make it.

- The red stripe IS pretty much bleached out but not completely.
- Can't see anything stuck in it's mouth.

If it's swim bladder, what can be done?

Bleached out red stripe can be ntd but need to make sure its not stress.
Tank size in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
Also swim bladder can by a symtom of ntd.
Is there any black linning around the red area.

Signs of ntd are.
Red stripe look bleached out, or a milky substance of red stripe area.
Blue area can look golden yellow colour.
Fish leave the shoal.
Being restless.
Black linning around the red area.
Bent spines sometimes.
Swimming oddly.
Erratic swimming.
later stages dropsy and popeye.

The fish have moved been moved into a new larger tank about 2 weeks ago so there may be some stress from that I guess.

Had another close look at the fish and there IS some black coulouring around the read area and is swimming like it's tail heavy as mentioned before.

One of the other neons looks very bloated but otherwise looks okay.

Meant to say - I've not added any new fish for at least a few months. I've had the neons for about 8 months.

TANK:

Amonia - 0
Nitite - 0
Nitrate - between 5 & 10
PH - 7.2
Size - 48" x 18" x 12 "
Fish - 3 neon tetra / 1 small algea eater / 6 zebra danio / 2 harlequin rasbora / 2 cooli loach / 4 sparkling gourami

I would keep a look out for ntd as blacking linning around the red can be a symtom of ntd.
Is it possible to issolate your your neons.
Epson salt baths for the bloated neon to help draw fluids out.
