Ill Fantails

please give any advice on how to treat my fantails. they both have white all over there fins and tails(started off looking like white spot but now looks like flour rather than salt grains) . i have treated them with tetramedica 'goldmed' but after two treatments they seemed no better! after a couple of 25% water changes and a few days break i tried treating them with methylene blue but this near on killed them so i have since done a 50% water change to get some of it out. they have been infected for about 2 weeks now and dont seem to be any better. do i give it a few days and a few partial water changes and then try the gold med again or is the a better channel to follow?

p.s. my stats seem fine , maybe because of all the water changes, but this may have been a factor to start with!

Dont know what the med is for that you used. Its either ich getting worse or its velvet.
Two weeks is a long time for them to have it and they will be really weak now so they might not survive.
Can you get a clearer pic of them so we can see the spots better?
If it looks more like a dusting then velvet is the likely cause. Its similar to ich so the treatment is the same.
Any other fish in the tank and what size is the tank? Doing water changes does help but you need to vaccuum the gravel.
Do you have a heater?
Which filter are you using?

Raise the temperature to 82c and add extra air to the tank via an air pump and airstone.
Add something like Protozin at the right dose and keep using it until the spots are gone for 6 days.
Do gravel vacs each day of around 50% and remember to re add the med. You can add it back at a drop per gallon.
If you have carbon in the filter then remove it before adding any meds.

To help ease the itching they are feeling you can give them a salt bath. In a bucket add a gallon of fresh dechlored water and 1.5 teaspoons of aquarium salt, dissolved.
Place the fish in this for 15 minutes but if they start to roll or get stressed then take them out. Do this each day for three days.

the med is for common diseases such as white spot, fin rot, fish fungus and wounds(straight off the bottle).
they do look like they have had a dusting as you said! the water changes seem to be helping and they seem alot livelier and are still feeding. they are in a 25ltr tank on thier own and when i change the water i use a gravel vacum as well! i have no heater in the tank and the filter is a built in one in the hood with no carbon in it.
i will try the salt bath as i have a box of aquarium salt handy and i will continue with a 50% daily water change and re-med the new water as i add it!

I would find something that treats velvet as the meds need to be strong which is why i suggest protozin. As you ahve been using what you have for 2 weeks and no improvement then you need to switch to something else.
If you do switch, then run carbon in the filter for a day and do a couple of water changes.

I would also suggest getting a bigger tank for them and if possible 20 gallons with a larger filter such as a fluval 3+ or external.
