If I Was To Buy A New Tank Today

Hi guys, If I was to buy a new tank today...

Could I take some of the sponge media from my 14 month old fish tank (if so, how much of it) and stick it in the brand new filter in the brand new fish tank (that will be smaller in size than my main tank) and add fish / shrimp the SAME DAY?

I have a 60Ltr tank, been setup for 14 months... maybe longer.

I'll be looking to buy a 30-40Ltr tank brand new for shrimp mainly and the odd fry fish till they out grow the tank.

Just wondering if you can do all this in the SAME DAY from buying the tank to adding the fish or shrimp?

Thought i'd ask as I know how shrimp love mature tanks, and I love shrimp!

add about a third of the media from your current filter and put it in the new one.

Awsome, so I just cut away a 3rd of my filter and stick it in the new one and i'll be able to add some of my shrimp straight in the tank without causing any deaths, hopfuly?

yep, just keep an eye on the water stats. Also, replace the sponge you take out of your 60l with new sponge.

Yup, i'll do that... i'm hoping I get enough sponge in the new filter to place in my current 60Ltr.

I'll keep an eye on both tanks water stats. I've got a bully molly in my 60Ltr tank, was hoping I could put him in the new tank on his own, to keep the filter ticking over... sound alright to do?

good idea, though if he's a bully he could well eat the shrimp once you get them.

True, well if I got this tank and set it up, would having just him in there on his own be enough to keep the filter ticking over, untill I get a good group of shrimp to put in there?

I'll take the molly out once I get plants, rocks etc for the shrimp.
