I will try to get a better pic now but I don't know how good it'll turn out. The little guys quick and the sun hits the wall behind me when I am trying to take the pic so there is a glare during the day. BRB with better pic hopefully

BTW the link (in jflower's post) is to gambusia affinis which is the 'western mosquito fish' :) The 'mosquito fish' is heterandria formosa.

I think I got it. Wait just a minute and I'll get the pic on here

The 'long fin that sometimes points down' would be the gonopodium - a modified anal fin used to internaly fertilise the female's eggs with packets of sperm. Only the males have it so the fish in the link I posted (which is a female) has a fan-shaped fin instead. The fish in the link jflowers posted are the same species but some of them might be male - so they'd have a gonopodium like yours does while the females would have fan-shaped fins. :)

does this help???

edit: the first and third ones show the gonopodium
the first one it's down the thrid it's up

I think it's deffinately a male gambusia affinis - it even has the tail pattern and the dark mark below its eye where you can see its internal organs.

ok so what does that mean? thanks a lot btw. What i'm asking is basically how big does it get?

lol - don't worry it's about the size of a guppy at 1.5" and requires the same basic care too. :)

edit: forgot to mension that they are a little nippier than guppies though :p

I am sure thats the one.

Size differs from what I read from 1" to 2", think 2" is probably females and 1" males.

[Edit: Great pics on the second lot BTW]
