Hi

Sorry for quality of pic. Bought these severums on an off-chance when purchasing a filter. The seller was a marine breeder, but happened to have these sev's in a little plastic container, he said he had no space to look after them and that they wouldnt last long so I took them with me.

He said they were F1 mouthbreeding severum or something like that and would grow to have all kinds of colours. I get the feeling they're standard green, any opinions? I'll try to get more pics but they're quite small just yet, about an inch long.

Cheers

they are green sevs you can tell by the fact they are only juvees and they are very dark green when young

Green is a colour

They could be either heros efasciatus or more likely heros Severus,
if they are h.efasciatus then you may see some orange appearing (around the anal fin mainly) as they mature

They look exactly like my green sevs did!

are the efasciatus lighter in colour with black bands when young like severus? just ask because my juvie green has developed the orange to anal fin even tho still light colour and banded and is getting bluish tinge round gills with lots of little black spots

not the best pic but only 1 ive got

Mine are efasciatus,

They have orange/red fins and mine are showing turquoise facial markings, the black banding doesnt go all the way from the bottom of the body to the top, but stops about half way up.

A bad pic, but I hope you get the idea.

The OP's could be efasciatus, as they do appear to have the orange markings to the lower fins, they are however, either very dark, alot younger or stressed and not showing their full colouring yet.

hmm rekon my 1 may be efasciatus then as altho the banding is a lot stronger than yours minx hes got very orange anal and pelvic fins and along the top of the dorsal fin is getting a nice light bluey colour

tbh mark I've never seen a Sev with such natural black banding like yours has,

I've just come across Heros SP "Inirida" which also don't look much different to what you have, Although then again they are quite a rarity so I don't know
some pics once its matured a bit should give us an indication,

Hey Minx should I recognize those Sevs of yours?
If they are the ones I'm thinking of then In total I must have spent over an hour watching them during my various visits to the store.

Indeed Davo you do recognise them :) Ive been watching them every time Ive been in for ages, so took the plunge last Friday. They still havent coloured up as much as they were in store, but they had a nasty 48 hrs of hell from my other sev when I 1st introduced them, but they are now coming out a bit and starting to look better.

I have to say Mark, Ive not seen one with quite the banding of yours either, its very prominent.

hmmm i will be exitedly watching him develop now in case ive stumbled on a rareun again

have been googling heros sp indria and stumbled upon a discussion about in in the cichlid room companion where somebody is saying that sp indria has 8 stripes whereas normal heros has 9. dunno if thats right or not but if you count them in the pic mine has 8 stripes

Thanks for replies, so it could be heros Efasciatus or heros Severus..Some more pics

Any more conclusive? They are approx 3-4 months old I think. about an inch.

Btw that b&w sev is stunning, and that's a green severum? Any links to find out more about the differences between all these?

Thanks
