Hey Experts,

I managed to adopt a tiny snail when i bought some live plants. It has now grown and managed to multiple (a lot!).

I was hoping some of you guys would be able to identify the breed of snail as i was looking to sell / give away some of the offspring.

The original snail is at the very most a centimetre long, with a brown shell with sort of small gold spots everywhere.

i attach some pictures - not sure they will help though.

Can anyone identify them? or direct me towards a site especially for snail ID??

Thanks
Matt

I call them common pond snails. As tank critters, if there are lots of them, you are overfeeding, and I recomend cutting down. I would have thought that only members with puffers would be interested in them as food, so you probibly wouldn't get much for them, as to most others they are only a pest :good:

All the best

Hi guys thanks for the ID.

I had a look at that article and i cant pick between the "Bladder/Tadpole/Pouch Snails - Family Physidae" and "Common Pond Snail - Lymnaea peregra" as you say. I'm leaning more towards the picture of the pouch snail given the size of gold markings and the fact that the common snail seems to have a clear(ish) body.

I'll see if anyone is interested in them for their tanks/food.

Interesting comment re: overfeeding i'll reduce it and see what happens - although the food i do pu in tends to get munched up in under 30 seconds!!

Thanks for your help guys.
