I am afraid there is no picture so you are going to have to rely on my description :D .

It is basically what looks like an adult dwarf gourami, same shape, everything except that it is white and about three times as big.

I have had a look through this website and others but have not been able to see one exactly the same.

I think it is an angelfish and my wife thinks it's a "adult gorami".

White and kind of lumpy looking with a face only a mother (or fishkeeper) could love?

Sounds like a giant Gourami and it's gonna get a whole lot bigger yet!

Just done a quick search of the giant gourami on the web and I see what you mean about a face only a mother or fishkeeper could love ,

It isn't the fish I have but it is very similar though, just not as ugly.

Angelfish and gouramies look nothing like each other... Simple question realy - does it have a dorsal and anal fin which make it appear to be symmetrical top and bottom and triangle-shaped? If it looks exactly like a dwarf gourami, I think it is some kind of larger gourami - perhaps a three-spot or moonlight. Or it might be a thick-lipped or banded though these aren't anywhere close to being white. Here are a few pics to help you out:

Keep in mind that the osphronemus gouramies start out looking like pretty much any fish in the trichogaster genus (three-spots, pearls, moonlights etc) but with a striped pattern or white-pink if albino. It is only once they reach a substantial size that they begin to look like the adult. I personaly think the mature fish are adorable ...

Here are some pics of young osphronemus goramy: http://www.thetropicaltank.co.uk/Fishindx/...gourami-juv.jpg

As Sylvia said, young Giants Gourami are less gnarly-faced than adults so it could still be a Giant.

Does it purse its lips as if making kissing motions as it swims? If so its a Kissing Gourami, another species that gets a bit larger that others (but nothing close to the Giant) and is often found in white or pink.

I have found a picture of this fish on my computer but I don't know how to paste it into this message?
You can sign up at a free hosting site, like http://photobucket.com/ and then upload your pictures onto there. Then copy the URL under the picture, click the IMG button on here, paste the URL in, and it should show up as a picture. :)

I have signed up for that, thanks for the advice I hope it has worked out ok.

Well here goes - identify my fish please:

I know the picture is not the best quality - but you try getting a fish to stand still

From the pic, not great but its definetly a gourami, probably a moonlight

Katchan

Edit in-try a google image search for moonlight gourami, see if that helps

Yes I would agree as well I have just done a search on the moonlight gourami and I think you are all correct.

Thanks very much for helping me, and I now owe my wife a slap up dinner (and aI bet she will need a new outfit as well), I used to like tropical fish  (and to think I thought it was a angel fish)!!

Is she actualy silver-white like it appears and does she have a concave sort of forehead and very small scales? If yes, deffinately a moonlight gourami though she doesn't look fully grown. If she has either a yellow or blue tint however, (and I can't tell because of the glare and her position) she might be a very pale blue or gold three-spot. Her shape, as I see it, looks more three-spot-like than moonlight...
