I found out recently that my turtles are being given away, leaving their 30 gal. behind. I decided to fill it with live bearers as usual, but I'm not sure what kinds. I really want some micky mouse plattys, but I was wondering what would go well with them. My two 10 gallons might also become free, and I'm thinking about putting some fry in those if they have any. Anyone have any ideas?

30 gallons...that's a nice size to work with. :)

You have lots of options. If you want to raise fry, and have a plan for where to keep them or give them away too, you could get some Swordies. There's lots of beautiful colorations on them. Mollies could work too, though I'd suggest you don't go for Sailfins. Platies will also work. It's usually best not to keep them with Swordies though, because they can interbreed. It doesn't cause a huge problem, since they've been interbred back and forth to get different colorations but you could get some males that don't develop Swords all the way, or similar things like that. It's up to you.

Or you could go for something a little different. Halfbeaks, perhaps? Maybe some kind of Goodeid?

What kind of tank are you looking for?

I don't really know what you mean by what kind of tank am i looking for, but im not used to other kinds of fish, and I'd like to try some different kinds of livebearers. I also saw some dwarf puffers before, and was wondering how aggressive they were

I mean...do you want lots of small fish, a few bigger fish, do you want to breed?

All fish I mentioned are Livebearers. But I'm guessing you want to stick to the common ones? :) As far as I know Dwarf Puffers are pretty nippy. I wouldn't put them in that tank.

Since you already have a lot of Mollies, and 10 gallons is too small for them anyway, I'd suggest you move them into the 30, then maybe get your Platies? Though that might overstock it some, depending on if you plan to keep all your babies. :)

any puffer fish will kill almost, if all other fish in tank, puffers should and must be kept in species only tanks, sorry :X

mickeymice will go with all community fish as far as my knowledge B)

I think i want more small fish, that way I can have more fish :D I only plan to keep the gold dust babies, and a few of the black mollies (which are starting to look weird now  ) and then give the rest away or sell them to pet stores. That leaves the two 10 gals. which im wondering how many guppies could go in one?

Okay, so you want to stay smaller. Only keeping a few of the Mollies is a good idea then. You could go for a bunch of Platies, or Swordies if you want. Do you want any other kinds of fish in there, like Tetras, Cories, etc. Or just Livebearers? :)

As for the 10 gallon...depends how you want to keep them. If you plan on breeding them, I'd get a trio so that way you have a bit of room for fry. If you don't want to breed, and want to get all males, about 5 would work. If you want to get all females...again, I'd get 2-3, because most likely they will have stored sperm and will continue producing fry. That way you will also have room to keep some babies.

im trying to stick with livebearers for now, just to basicly like learn from them. I really don't care if the fish breed, its usually what im hoping for, so then i can sell them to the stores for extra supplies or fish and such, and i'll always have the space for the fry.

Okay. So you know your stores will take them, and you have the credit worked out? Because some stores won't give you anything, and some will just give you pennies for them.

If you want to stay all Livebearers, I'd say go for the Mollies, then get either Platies or Swordies. Or if you aren't worried about interbreeding, both. :)
