Suddenly getting lots of small snails appearing all over the tank. So hows the best way to get rid off them and keep them out. Understand puffers will eat them but they are not good community fish, any others? Worth using chemicals?

down in the invertabrates section theres a pinned topic ;)

You could get a loach but thats always the best idea to take care of snails. You could try putting some vege in the tank overnight and then take it out in the morning. Some of the snails could be on the vege and could be a way to keep the snails down. But not a sure way of gettin rid of every snail

Loaches are great snail eaters, I stick all of my new live plants in the tank with the loaches for a few days before putting them in other tanks. There are several smaller varieties like the zebra loach, zipper loach and dwarf chain loach, and they make great community fish. Make sure you have a bit of room before adding any as they will need to be kept in a group.

See if you can get some clown loaches of reasonable size. There are none in my tank that's because the four loaches i have give them no chance!

Thanks for your help. Not sure why didn't look in Invertebrates in the first place (way to obvious). Do Clown loaches make good community tank fish? Others are all small. Rummy nose, Platties, Panda Corries. Potentially Clowns can grow quite large. The Pakistan (Yo-Yo) Loach looks nice. Tessla you mention should keep as a group, whats seen as a good minimum? 4.

I have 2 yoyo loaches. Im not sure if putting in some loaches would be ok because of the panda corys you have. They are VERY VERY active and play lots. So all tank mates on the bottom of the tank must be able to cope. I dont have any other fish on the bottom with my yoyos so i dont have a problem with them. BTW it also depends on the size of your tank. It mite not be able to cope with having loaches in it

Something you can do is treat your tank with a powder/solution called flubinol 15 (look up 'skinny disease'). It wont harm your fish in any way - it's basically a wormer so it could do some good. Anyway, from my own experience, the stuff is ab fine for any sick/healthy fish, but comes with one added benefit. It kills all snails. Not sure why, maybe they're simiar to internal worms in some wierd way. You'd hav to make sure that you took all the carcasses out though, otherwise it'l send the water parameters in your tank crazy.
Just a thought

lol just get some loaches, if your tank can take them! i would also try to avoid any chemical solutions, nothing can kill without side effects on other inhabitants. i only ever had one snail, the crayfish got it! and the rest of my crew seem to have cleaned up any eggs, or whatever.

Four would make a good group, but steer clear of clowns, they get much too big! Even yo-yos can outgrow a lot of tanks, how big is yours? The species I mentioned all get to about 3" tops (thats planning for about an extra 12 gallons by the inch per gallon rule), if you have enough space in the tank and enough hiding places they shouldn't bother your corys too much.
