Ideas For A New Tank - 70 Litres

http://www.thinkfish.co.uk/community.html
i found this helpful in seting up my tank

I've just used this site to create a community and it says I can have in my 180l tank:-

5 Corydoras
5 Otocinclus
6 Neon Tetra
1 Fighter Fish
2 Sparkling Gourami
6 Black neon Tetra
3 Zebra Loach

Does this sound about right? Because it's telling me I still have loads of room left.

That's about 47 US gallons, which would actually be a bit big for a betta (fighter fish) if it is one of the long finned varieties as they need to come up to the surface for air. Assuming it's a male, I also wouldn't keep him with tetras or gouramis though a female (or several) would probably be fine.

Sparkling gouramis (or any gourami for that matter) you'll want to keep with a ratio of at least two females to each male, so you could go with either a trio or two females. Since they're such small gouramis, you may even be able to get away with two trios in your tank.

I'd say you've got a bit of room to spare with that sort of stocking, I'd use the room to increase the numbers in your groups of tetras, loaches and corydoras. The otos will need a mature tank, so add those guys as your last fish.

In what order would be recommended putting the fish in tank after the cycling is done?
and would i be able to put any shrimp in there? as my wife really likes them.

I'd be worried about either the loaches (probably the loaches) or the gouramis eating the shrimp, but you can try. I'm assuming you mean algae shrimp like amanos or cherries? If you go for it provide them with plenty of hiding spots.

I'd add fish in this order: tetras, gourami, corydoras or loaches and finally otos. Shrimp will also appreciate a mature tank, but I'd add them before the bottom feeders to give them the best chance of not being eaten if you go for it.
