Ideas For A 29 Gallon

Instead of getting the rummy nose tetras, could I get 5 dalmation mollies instead?

EDIT - I read that the mollies will get a little too big, nvm on that then.

I'm thinking of a new list here:
I've decided to skip the dwarf gouramis, cuz i read that all/most of them get bloated/bacterial infections and sick. So I'll go back to the zebras.

5 Platies (10 inches)
5/6 Zebras (10 in/12 in)
3/4 cories - not getting anymore becasue I'm afraid enough food wont get to them (6 in/8 in)

After using the larger numbers, I get 30inches of fish. With my overfiltration, it should be ok. Will those fish be ok together? If possible, could I add anything else?

Where did you read such a thing? LoL. A single dwarf gourami will be fine, if you want 2 or more you'll need to have 1 male and the rest females though, as males can be aggressive towards each other. Female gouramis tend to be dull in color so aren't regularly stocked at most LFS, so you might have trouble finding them.
Mollies would be ok, but they do get quite large and you would only be able to fit a couple. However, balloon mollies stay pretty small and you could get something like 1 male and 2-3 females.
With the cories, as its been mentioned, you really should go with atleast 6. If you get any less they may become shy and hide all the time and not get enough food, but if you get 6 of them they'll be happy and be out in the open, and get enough food. Thats just a theory though. If you drop a shrimp pellet or two in the tank they'll come swarming. Since things such as shrimp pellets and algea pellets sink, they'll get to the food before the other fish. I wouldn't worry about them not getting enough food.
I would go with:
5 platies (1 male, 4 females)
6 zebra danios (don't go any less then that)
and 6 cories.

If I were you..
I'd go to you LFS, seriously examine and look at all the fish there, right down every single one you like, or have even a little intrest in.
Thats alot of fun, if you like looking at fish like me.
Then you can look online and do all the reserch.
Plus, do you want to do a planted tank?
There are many possablilities.
You shoudl pick your favorite fish, then build your stock in accordance with that fish.

Yea I was in my LFS looking at fish today actually. They dont have zebras there, they only have them at Petco. But the petco store takes good care of fish. The tanks are always clean whenever I come in, and no dead fish laying around like walmart.

Oh, I have Hikari Sinking wafers for the cories, I forgot about those. So the wafers will keep them happy I guess.

I have another question though. I have 2 trilineatus coriees in my 10 gallon that I plan to transfer to the new tank when its ready. But my LFS no longer has them. Will they be as active with different type of cories?

So far, my list is now

5 platies (1 male, 4 females)
6 zebra danios
and 6 cories

But I still have like 3 or so weeks to choose. Will the zebra danios harass/fin nip at the platiys?

What happened to the dwarf gouramis? I though those were a great idea?

Nah, I read in the gourami forum that they're very prone to bacterial infection and stuff. So I cecided to skip on those and stick with the zebras. IDK though, I have plenty more time to think about it though, so this list isn't really permamnent yet.

Hi love_fish :)

Have you thought about getting glowlight tetras? They are very peaceful fish, and they got along well in a mixed community.

Your C. trilineatus will get along well with any other kind of cory. If you get 3 or 4 of another kind, like bronze or albino C. aeneus, it would be just fine. You don't have to worry about feeding them because you will soon learn to put the food in so that plenty of it sinks to the bottom.

Plays are nice and colorful and easy to keep. They brighten up any tank, IMHO.

A snail would be a nice addition too, provided you don't get one who likes to eat plants, if you have them. :D

Thanks for the tips. How many glowlights could I fit in with these fish, without overstocking:

5 platies (1 male, 4 females)
6 zebra danios
and 6 cories

I dont think I could fit any in there without overstocking, could I?

I'm pretty sure I saw glowlights at my LFS too.

OK, I don't feel like atarting a new thread, so I'll continue my ideas here. I'm now considering this:

5 Platies
4 Guppies
2 Dwarf Gouramis
6 Cories

Is that going to be ok? I like guppies a lot, so I would really like to keep them. I dont see any fish in there that are fin nippers.

That would work, but the gouramis can be aggressive sometimes, then again we have them in with tiny neons at work and they don't bother them, I think you'd be ok. Remember though, males can be aggressive towards each others (I've seen some "displaying" to each other at work, its awesome, but probably wouldn't be the best in the long run) so try to get just one male.

Alright then, sounds good to me.

Thanks everyone, that's my final list, unless someone has anymore input.

Sounds kinda understocked to me....then again my 29 is over stocked with an adult Krib, Pearl Gourami, 5 oto cats, 4 black neons, 8 neons, and 1 flame tetra! Thats about 37 inches!

Well, I suppose if you have teh filter to handle it, and you do weekly water changes, you'll be fine.

Since this is now sounding understocked, any suggestions. Maybe I can fit a small school of 5 neon tetras in there?

EDIT - Let's see if it is overstocked

5 Platy (10 inches)
4 Guppies (8 or inches?)
1 Dwarf Gourami (2 inches)
6 Cories (12 inches)

That's 32 inches alone w/o any more fish. Is that really understocked. I have an overfiltration about 10 gallons - 40 gallons (wouldn't go that high), and I do weekly, if not twice a week water changes. So would it be possible for some neons? IDK, I might save the extra room for fry, so i think I'll just leave it at that. Maybe add another guppy to have 5 instead of 4.

OK, I'm reading so much about dwarf gouramis being really prone to bacterial infections, ulcers, etc. so it looks like I'm going to skip on them for the second time lol. So, with this setup:

5 Platys
5 Guppies
6 Cories

What else could I add?
