I have a Gyrinocheilus aymonieri (chinese algae eater/ sucking loach) Its about 6" and currently in an old 80l approx tank. I'm thinking of upgrading to around 180l and building / stocking around this fish.

Questions

What size tank is the minimum/ ideal for this fish?
Any advice on tankmates, I know the reputation of these fish is so prehaps a danio shoal (how many could I stock?) or maybe ghost shrimp. Despite its species its been fairly placid throughout the eight or nine years of different tank setups it's lived in but I want to avoid anything too risky (other bottom feeders, deep bodied fish e.t.c)
I'm going to try building it a cave out of rocks glued with sealant. How do I stop it digging underneath? I was thinking a flat bottom rock on the tank bottom (so no room to dig down) but is this likely to crack the bottom?
Finally, what size tank is required for it to reach its maxium size? Reading about it it seems most stop growing at 6"-7" outside of ponds.

So does anyone actually keep this fish properly, or are they all missold for communities and returned?
