So, i recently setup my first serious planted tank (as seen in my signature). It's been setup for a few weeks and ive decided that i should have really chosen the plants i ordered rather than just chosing the "plant collection" from Plants Alive. Yesterday i added a DIY C02 kit, using a 2L bottle and yeast, sugar bla bla, you know the drill.
I've decided now though that i really want to do it properly, with plants i like, spending hours actually scaping it to get it just how i like it. Im far to much of a perfectionist so im never really happy with anything.

But back to the point, i opened up photoshop and started manipulating tank photos which contained the plants i wanted to add. Here is the final thing, its not particularly pretty but it gives the general gist. My tank is 36" x 12" x "18, the same dimensions as the picture.

What do you guys think? Any recomendations?

The rocks will probably be replaced with bogwood as ive already purchased it (as seen in my sig) and i don't really have money to waste.

The plants i wish to add are - Most of which are included in the image, i think - feel free to correct or list the plants in the image.

Riccia Fluitans
rotala sp
Rotala rotundifolia
Glossostigma elatinoides
Hemianthus micranthemoides

Cheers, Andy

good scape idea, however im not fond of the diy c02, to get stability, you need a pressurised fire extinguisher set, and without this, trying to grow some of these demanding plants could prove hard- without stability algae occurs becuase of excess nutrients not being used up by the plants.. just give it a go, but i recon somewhere along the line you will think about buying a pressurised co2 set, probably best to do this from the start though.

good luck

ps. there is also hairgrass in that pic :good:

Thanks AdAndrews.

About the C02 - i am 17 - my parents are parents - so basically pressurised c02 is a no no for now. Hopefully when i manage to grow out a beautiful aquascape they may change their mine but for now im gona try and 2 bottle diy rotation system - The one ive setup seems to be getting 60 bubbles per minute, and has been for the past 2 days. I'm not sure how long it will last but for now its going strong.

Also could you tell me which plants are demanding out of this list? - this is the final list i made at 3am last night after 4 hours trying to decide!
Also what do you think about the quantities? Too much, too little?

lol, i am 16, my parents are parents, but i would rather do it right to start with.. anyways..

for the plants riccia is fine.. go for around 30 dwarf hairgrass, and 15 normal size hairgrass.. up the rotala to atleast 40, you will need way way more glosso than that, probably around 50(if that number is in stems) and up the dipidis to atleast 40

i ordered everything for CO2 (like the reg) then the fire extinghuisher come the next day, my Mum had no choice but to let me have it

what sizes are the plants? bunches/ pots/ individual stems? It will give us a better idea on how many you have actually ordered.

I dont have a clue. Thats the trouble.
I made a seperate topic asking exactly what a bunch, pot, etc means? How many stems will i get?!

Heres an example

Crypt Wendtii

Price
£1.50 per 5 plants
£7.35 per 25 plants

£1.75 for Potted
£1.60 for Leaded

SO i guess a pot is just 5 stems potted, and leaded is just 5 stems leaded.

Thus i will just order "per plant" and save myself.

I havnt actually ordered yet btw, im still contemplating. Im not gona order until next week when i finish college so i can really give all my attention to it (the other half isn't too please about this mind)

Just a thought also...

Plants like glosso..

Price
£2.40 per 5 plants
£9.85 per 25 plants

£1.75 for Potted
£1.45 for Leaded

Would you not get more in a pot, than per 5 plants? how big is a glosso plant, one plantlet or a group?!
It makes no sense and there isnt anywhere on the website which explains.

Would it be best to order single stems for stem plants but pots for grass plants and the like?

ok, here is what i would do.

3 x cups of riccia fluitans
1 x 25 plants of rotala indica
1 x 25 plants of glosso (always hard to measure plants like this)
2 x 25 plants of hairgrass
2 x 25 plants of didiplis
