i cant for the life of me remember what this fish is, i recall its a relation to the gouramis and its name is tac- something.

Beautiful fish.

The closest I could find would be Ctenops nobilis.

What was it labeled as?

Yep, that's a ctenops nobilis. They're are somewhat fragile (hence 'frail' gourami being one of their common names). You'll also find them as 'noble gourami' (from their scientific name, it's obvious why). I'm curious as to how long you've had this and what sort of conditions you're keeping it in. They often deteriorate in community tanks yet I can see what might be a bit of angel in the corner of that picture .
