Hey, I was at my LFS when I noticed a cihlid that was carrying. It's a Mbuna cichlid. It was in the assorted cichlid tank so im at to clueless to what she is. I just had to have her cause she's real pretty. I have her in a breeder box at the moment so my other cichlids don't bother her or eat any of the babies when she spits them out. I thought it was just eggs but this morning I was watching her and seen that they are already baby fish. So it wont be long till she spits. I took plenty of pictures so maybe someone could identify her. She shows her true colors with the flash on. Any help would be appriciated.

most likely they will be hybrids expecialy from a mixed tank if there are no males in the tank of the same species, you can get good deals from mixed species tanks if you know what your buying, but i would'nt keep the fry.

Do you know what she might be? There were several just like her, 2 or 3 red zerbras, a bumblebee, and a yellow lab. The store I got it from gets shipments every Friday, and when I went the previous week, she wasn't it there. So maybe it came from the suppliers/breeders where there was another male. I'm going to keep the babies.

It would be cool to keep them and raise them. :good:
So long as kept and not sold if they are hybrid,
and I'm thinking since no way to ascertain who dad is it must be assumed so.
Cichlid keepers get very touchy about purity.

I'm struggling with the id, pretty sure its got cobalt zebra in there but not totally.
I'm not the greatest with id's except the ones I'm familiar with.

possible candidate a variation of Metriaclima Callainos or less likely a M. Greshakei
But I'm thinking mom is already almost certainly a hybrid herself. So I'm going with Muttotropheus Zebra

I was thinking that she might be cobalt zebra but didnt wanna look dumb if she wasn't. Im not going to sell them, just keep them as my own. i just thought she was pretty and wanted her.

She is pretty :good:.I could be way off the mark on id but I do see allot of cobalt blue zebra there myself.
you could end up with a ton of fry from her. Depending on size anywhere from 15 to 50. Be prepared if you intend on keeping them,

On a side note that small space is going to begin to stress her. might look at stripping the fry and letting her swim.

I'm going to move her to another aquarium when I get home today. I have a spare 10 gallon that I can put her in until she spit. Then move her back to the other tank. I am getting a 75 gallon next weekend so i'll have plenty of room for her and her fry, along with the ones I already have.

Many Years a go when i first started with mbuna i had a cichlid just like her, apart from he was a male. Here is the pic of him. Still to this day i dont have a clue what he was (same with your female) I wouldnt say it was a cobalt as the body shape is different as well as the face. She may well be a hybrid like my male was but if your wanting to keep her and the fry, go for it just as moby said don't sell them on :good:
