Cupid Cichlid :D Either Biotodoma Waverni or Biotodoma Cupido its all related to the eye spot and its location its either above or below that splits it... and not sure which it is...

At first glance in shop we also thought bandit cichlid but googling Wills suggestions we reckon hes right with the cupid (Biotodoma Waverni)

100% Cupid, great fish one of my favorites that Ive never kept.... Do best in groups but not in pairs.

On adults, males have iridescent bluish horizontal lines be neath the eye, while in females these lines are broken up into dots, males grow somewhat larger and are more slender.

Its really difficult to sex them when their young.

Your picture is of a biotodoma waverni. It's spot is between the two lateral lines. Biotodoma cupido the spot is above the two lateral lines. Lateral lines are those faint lines travelling horizontally across the fishes body.

Here are my cupido's. Note the spot is above the second lateral line.

Fun fish. I have a group of 5 males. Apparently it is hard to get females. I've read that most of these fish are wild caught and that it might be that the females are deeper in the water column so do not get caught as much. Just a little something I have read but never found verification for. I would think that these guys do well in groups as mine are interactive. Peaceful guys too aside from a bit of chase.

Really nice group :) Good choice on 5!

Karin - those have come on really really nice :D Interesting on the split levels of the genders - I dont know much about their breeding habits but if they are substrate spawners that would make sense :)
