At the vet office where my grandpa works, there is a fish tank - about 20 or 30 gallons, but not any bigger. It's hard to tell the size because of the stand and lid. Anyway, I haven't really looked at it before as it's in the lobby and I'm usually in the back with patients and boarding animals.

So, today, I had a look in it. There were five Pearl Gouramis, and roughly eight yellow cichlids, and one tiny baby, hanging out in the rocks. I'd like to know if anyone can ID these cichlids with my description. They were about 4 inches long, bright yellow, and solid with no stripes. They all looked the same, and I assumed they were all juvies, but because of the baby, they've obviously spawned. I couldn't tell male from female. Their anal fins had spots, sort of like the ones on this fish.

That's about all they noticed, sorry. They huddled together on one side of the tank, away from the gouramis. There didn't seem to be any agression between the group, most likely because the tank was so obviously crowded. I'd like an ID so I can learn about what size they get (if they get any bigger that they were, actually), so I know if I should pull the baby out and bring it home and take care of it. No one even knew it was there, so it's amazing it's survived without food.

I don't know if they're New World cichlids or not, so I'm crossposting this in the African forum.

Thanks!

My first thoughts are yellow labs. Common african cichlids that are bright yellow, though I could be wrong.

do they look like this?

Yellow labs are what I thought of, too, but they didn't have black on their dorsals.

Edit: I don't know, maybe they were labs. I could've just overlooked the black on the dorsal. Either way, should I grab the baby while it's still there? The only tank I have to put it in is 14 gallons, with otos and apple snails, but nothing bigger. Would it be okay living in a 14 gallon full grown?
