So I've ruled out tetras and danios, rainbowfish have the closest matching fins... can anyone id these guys for me? One has hints of orange and black coming up, and if their rainbowfish I think I'll keep em...

I bought 11 in total but 7 are disappearing into my yabbys mouth, they were too runty to be worth keeping, I only kept the 4 that looked like they would survive...

iff you look closely at the tail of the (definate) rainbowfish it has those stripes like on the one at the link but there turning red not yellow because you wouldnt notice them if they were yellow i was also wondering what the ones with red stripes are called because my lfs just has them labeled as assorted rainbow
it also has a pakistan loach labeled as a lizard fish

i dont know why their selling rainbowfish as feeders such a waste of such a beautiful fish so yeah thats it in the link might be the same species dont know though

they doo look very much like young M.herbertaxelrodi to me

Rosy Reds look close but theres a few problems
1. They just ahve the dorsal fin, the feeders have the two dorsal fins like what you see on rainbowfish
2. There's no colour on the rosies, the feeders all have a definite orange/yellow beginning to appear on and near the tail and black on the fins...

Well I removed most of the feeders out of my yabbys tank as she was getting herself confused and am adding the shrimpy/not going to live feeders one at time.

Oh rather funny really, I had told my Mum I needed feeders for Athena, meaning feeder worms, and she bought ten feeder fish. Since I don't wnat to tempt fate by introducing diseases into my tanks which contain fish, I stuck em in the yabby tank instead. Most are now living in a quarantine tub, though theres a few shrimp ones I'll weed out.

I found these pics of Murray rainbowfish, they also happen to be native to australia and look quite similar to your fish and sound like they match the description;

:thumbs:

Probably endler's livebearers. Albeit, overly bred or crossbred with some feeder guppies. Would explain the orange and black colors that might be popping up...although I can't really make that out on my computer. Body shape and fins match

These guys have a DOUBLE DORSAL fin, as in two dorsal fins, one after the other. No livebearer possesses that trait, nor does the white cloud mountain minnow, which has a different body shape and coloration to boot. Have a look at the link I posted, that displays both coloration and body type...

Hmm Murray Rainbowfish is close as well, so all the possibilities I've looked at max at about 4 inches, 5-6 would be fine in a 20g rite? I can upgrade them once they grow up as well, their less then an inch right now.

definate rainbowfish not a white cloud minnow, guppy, endler or bull head is a solid yes to rainbowfish

Cool, i am glad if i have found you a good ID match for them, if they are murray rainbowfish then based on their size alone they should be absolutely fine in a 20gallon tank as long as they are not really active fish like tiger barbs or something :thumbs: .

White Cloud Minows. 100% saw them today. Cold water fish.

I'm sorry but how do these fish in any way look like WCMM's;

They don't have a red tail base for a start ;) .

Yah and a different mouth, and different shaped fins, a different tail as well for that matter.

Okies well I've got 8 now that are still alive, I've been losing on average one a night, They've got a filter now, but I haven't the faintest idea about heating... They were in a coldwater tank at the store, what temp do these guys like?

I think I'll put 6 in my 20g once I move my axolotl out and see how they go.
