My friend gave me this fish today. He didnt know what kind of cichlid it is, but I think it might be a midas. Is it a midas, or something else?

looks some sort of amphiliphus. not too sure that it is, will have to look into it further.

I wouldn't say midas due to the lips, I would say more RD than midas (though it could be a mix).

Any chance of some more photos?

I would have to say a RD or at the very least mostly RD, as shroob pointed out the lips but also the end of the snout is pointed if you were to draw a line from each eye to the point of the snout including the lower jaw RDs then to form a V where as midas tend to from a C. but again I would be more inclined to lean towards A. Labatius.

as I said before looks like a piebald RD awesome fish :good: :good: :good:

ah well wonderful, my friend had him in a 20 gallon tank. I blessed him out for it and he gave it to me to put in my 100. Thank you for helping me identify him. He is beautiful right now, and he should get even more good looking. But off to the tank, it is my water change day. Thanks man.

Just a warning, RD's can change colour as they age so it may not stay that colour forever.

that is too true my big F0 male RD was a pinkish shade of white and now if you look in my sig he grown abotu 3 inches or so and has gone to a mottled orange with white on his flanks.

I think I have one of these right now. Mine's all barred at the moment, but he's only like 3". Don't have any pictures of him, unfortunately. We'll see how he changes, too. :)
