Hi all,

I need help with an ID now.

Bought a fish today labeled as a "yellow faced cichlid". I don't normally like buying something unless i now what they are but this guy was just that bit different. He's about an inch long (if that) and is basically albino with a yellow face (hence the name  ). He also has feint stripes a bit like an albino zebra.

Before anyone asks, no he is not dyed, he's definately a natural. Its just the cichlid expert wasn't in the LFS today so couldm't get a proper id and couldn't find anything on google.

Thanks in advance and i will try and post a pic tomorrow if n-one gets it.

I think you will need a pic to get an identification.

Thanks gixer but no, its completely albino except for the head which is bright yellow, fins are also albino. You may be right about the pic.

maybe a Tropheus? Are you sure its a malawi, or an umbuna for that fact?

It may just be an albino zebra, mine has yellowish parts to it.

its definately a malawi, pretty sure an mbuna based on the shape etc but he's so small. The LFS had a whole batch that were identical with regard to the yellow head.

Possibly, is that a zebra?

Cheers again gixer

Could well be right there gixer. To be honest, i think he needs to grow a bit for a 100% accurate id, he is sooooo tiny.

I tried taking pics this morning but even with full zoom, i don't think its worth posting them.

Thanks again
