no more than 25%, and be sure to use dechlorinator when re-filling the tank.

If you find your water is really bad when you get a test kit, you can do a 25% water change every 3-4 hours if necessary to bring it back under control.

this almost definately sounds like ich. ( it is really spelled ICH but pronounced ick.)

I cant figure out if it is Ich or not..I did a 20% water change last night and added some stress coat and this morning all the loaches looked clean...I just fed them to get them out of their normal hiding places under the drift wood and they looked fine..then I noticed the biggest one looked like it had specs all the sudden and then I realized something..Ive been feeding them shrimp pellots..they all get in a group and eat on the same pellot and it dissolves fast...Anyone think that what Im seeing on them could be specs of shrimp pellots stuck to thier skin?? Ive been watching them non-stop along with all the other fish and no problems..
