Ick Treatment Not Working? Need Advice!

Here are some meds you can buy in the united states.
I would maybe not get clout as it's quite a strong med.

Look under ich.

I am hesitant, but I think I ordered quick cure (my local pet store didn't have it. They only had coppersafe which is what I had before when I had an Ich issue in another tank a while back, but most of my fish at that time, died from the treatment.)

Most of my fish are doing really good on the salt/87 degree heat treatment.

Naruto was covered in spots... there is only two left visible on his tail. I don't know if these are lingering spots, or a reoccurance though.

My young longnose whiptail was the last to get it... he doesn't look nearly as bad as he did. He seemed to improve after yesterday's gravel vaccum/water change... but as you can see he's still covered in spots. I can't move him to the big tank until he gets undercontrol.

So I'm going to have to move on to using a medical treatment. It just upsets me because I really wanted to avoid having to use medications after my last experience with it.

If the more sensitive fish are not showing any signs of improvment I would add a whitespot med.
The salt and high temp could be stressing them out that is not getting them better.

If you do decide to medicate. Just half dose, plenty of aeration.
If you are really worried, you could always try less than half dose to see how they handle it first.

thats what I was thinking. a little less than half the dose at first. I'm weaning back a little on the salt. I did a two gallon water change without replacing the salt... cause I don't want to have a crap load of salt AND medication in the tank. That will probably cause too much stress. I'll leave some salt in there until the treatment is over... but not a full dosage.

Everyone else has tollerated the current heat/salt treatment well, which is why I worry about bothering with medications. Naruto only has 2 spots and while I can't say for sure that it's NOT a reoccurance... i think they're just lingering spots... but he was previously infested with spots, so he really improved... and my whiptail, Umi, was the last to get it, and after this last vaccum he seems to not be AS bad although he's not where I feel comfortable that he's recovering though.

Everyone else either never got it, or fully recovered.

but I can't isolate Umi and Naruto because if one or two fish have ick, you have to treat the whole tank, not just the fish covered in ick, so it wouldn't be worth stressing them out and moving them to the larger tank which isn't finished cycling. It's just so frustrating. I'm just very thankful I haven't lost any of my fishies through this treatment. (fingers crossed I won't lose any when I treat with the medication, either.)

Soak there food in garlic juice. It boost the immune system.
Parasites can't stand garlic.

That's a good idea. I should get the garlic enriched tropical flakes...

well, I'm going to hold off a bit on the medication... This morning when I woke my fish up... they started to look better.

its not a good pic, but you can tell he's not as spotty as he was yesterday. He only has a few small spots left.

Naruto still has two spots on his tail (can't see them cause he's in the middle of spinning around)... but Sakura my female molly is spotless.

So Perhaps we've gotten over the hump and we're on our way to recovery. I'll do a gravel vaccum tomorrow to get any loose spores. hopefully soon I'll be able to get the tank back to normal.

Ok.
Keep the thread updated if you don't mind.

When I woke them up today, everyone was spottless and swimming happily... including the whiptail who was the worst off... not a spot on Umi at all. I'm going to let them be today... do a gravel vaccum tomorrow (I was going to do one today... but I just did one about 2 days ago, and I'd hate to disturb them on the first day they are ick free.)

But I'll do a gravel vaccum tomorrow... start doing consistant vaccums every other day, and slowly wean them off the salt. I don't think I'm going to remove all of the salt since they all seem to do well on it, and it's a good preventative for illness... but I won't keep them on nearly the same dosage.

I'm going to keep the heat therapy going at least until the middle of next week though, just to make sure the ick has been killed and I've vaccumed up all the spores.

I'm just very happy that... knock on wood... it seems ALL of my fish are pulling through. I think feeding them tubiflex worms and bloodworms has also helped. I heard protien helps them fight infection.

That's good news.
Not sure about using salt all the time though.

Well, things are going pretty good. No one has new ick spots, It seems the outbreak is about over.

I did a gravel vaccum today, which seemed to go good... and I added some new silk plants. I figured if I add a few more plants, they'll maybe feel more relaxed and the less stress, the less stress, the less likely a stress enduced ick outbreak will happen.

I also got a replica of a famous Japanese pagoda that they can swim around, and there are windows small enough for fry to hide in, too small for adult fish, so if I EVER get fry... they have an extra place to hide.

Not sure I like how it looks.. once I get the tank back to normal, I'll maybe shift some of the plants around, and move the Pagoda. We'll see how it looks.

but so far, big thumbs up.
