Hi I am wondering if I should medicate for Ick, fin rot or both? I stupidly introduced 4 danios to my tank that all had slightly damaged fins, w/out q/t. Four days later they had white spots on fins and/or body and were removed from tank. Now my rainbow shark has white discoloration on the tips of his lower fins and anal fin. Was planning on treating with NO-ICK. Should I treat for fin rot too? What medication should I use? Is this a bacterial infection or a secondary infection from Ick? Thank you in advance for any well deserved reprimands and hopefully, advice.

Size of tank in gallons or litries.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

Whitepsot looks like the fish has been sprinkled in salt.
Finrot common on top of whitespot.
Just add the whitespot med as sometimes that can heal the fins.
Don't forget to remove black carbon from the filter if you use it.
Increase aeration with the high temp and med.

you idiot why ask all those questions, size of the tank doesnt able you to answer the question
zebra dannios can be a bit nippy, so they could be eating each others fins, making you think its fin rot, just try treating with ick treatment for a week, upp the temp 2 deg over 2 day period, then after the week it should be fine, but if it is fin rot go out and buy some treatment for that

The "white discoloration on the tips of his lower fins and anal fin" sounds like its defo fin rot to me. You've been quite unlucky in buying those fellas :(

are the white tips fluffy or does it look like its faded? my advice it to identify your problem before treating. we could do with the information asked for by Wilder too.

most diseases, in the tank, can be caused by stress! as such a clear knowledge of the tank and its situation is vital, for those who don't have the tank in front of them, whilst trying to give advice.

if you dont mind i will quote you!
you idiot
what kind of fool treats for a illness they are not sure they have????????????

Here is a picture of the white edges on the lower fins and anal fin. They do not look fluffy. They look faded, however the effect is even not ragged. Not sure why the one poster is talkin smack to the other... lets not have that. Anyway, 35 gallons, six tiger barbs who presently appear fine, the 1 rainbow shark in question, a small half banded eel, and a bamboo shrimp. The danios did break out in white spots after approximately 100 hrs. in the tank at which point they were removed because I was trying to stop the ich lifecycle. Following morning the shark had this. Right now (1 day later) the whiteness has not advanced or regressed. I did a 30 liter water change yesterday, adding extra NovAqua plus with echinacea & vit. c. I am wondering if the shark developed an infection from the stress of fighting off ich or from ich infection (without white spots)?? Does this look fungal or bacterial to y'all? Thanks very much for the help.

UPDATE: Tested parameters, and found a slight presence of ammonia, like around .25 ppm. Doing a water change now. Maybe this was the stress factor all along?

Are you still treating for the whitespot.
If not myxazin by waterlife for finrot.

Shark shows a white spot on tail today. It is ich. I am waiting for a Fed Ex with No-Ich by Fish Vet. I need to do an invert safe treatment. But the package might not show up till Thurs. at the latest. Should I treat w/Kordon's Ick Attack or wait for the other product... advice needed, I want to start treatment asap, but I want it to be effective!

How big is the spot is it the size of a grain of salt.
Greyish white spots with a circling or red on the out side of the spot or a red centre can be columnaris spots.

Raised temp to 80 and started treating for Ich, and spots disappeared. Fin rot still present, however. How long do I need to medicate to beat the lifecycle? I am thinking at least 2 wks. Hoping fin rot will clear by then; if not may have to q/t for antibiotics?
