What is a really good medicine to treat ick?

I live in the US.

Thanks!

I have always used heat and salt, though this could be problematic if you have salt sensitive species. I've heard that Coppersafe works well, but if you have snails or other invertibrates, will kill them. There are many meds for ick and your lfs will most likely have some. I've heard that Kick Ich is pretty good but I have never tried it myself. Here's some info on Kich Ich

A combination of formalin and malachite green is usually pretty effective. The nice thing about the combination is that together, both ingredients become more potent than if they were each alone. So that you won't have to use anywhere near as high of a concentration of either ingredient alone. This is good because your fish won't be as bothered by the medication.

Many commercially available ich treatments are this combination of formalin and malachite green. And most of them will have the ingredients listed on the bottle and their website.

Do take precautions, as this medicine is pretty nasty stuff. Try to find a pair of gloves and be sure to wash really well after you are done. I'd read the MSDS that the company should have on their website to be sure that you understand the risks of using the medication.

Is it just regular table salt?

Also, what temp do you have the tank at?

Thanks!

I live in the USA too. I have used it all over the years. Rid-Ick, Quick cure, ich-attach, coppersafe, salt, Parasite guard, IPA general cure, formalin-3, and Clout.

I like the copper safe the best for none planted tanks. I had some really hard to kill ich there are different strains of it some is easy to kill off others linger. I sware some have built up a resistant to the malachite green. But I could be wrong.

I liked Rid-ick for using malachite green treatment. But I really hate using that stuff is stains and is just a nasty chemical.

Ich-attach 100% organic. That stuff is a waste. I used it for a week dosing 3 times a day and the ich got worst.

Clout is the best. It works scary fast. After 24 hours my fish were back to normal with only a few spots. so I did another treatment after a large water change. The fish were 100% better. But to make sure no free swimmers were in the water I dosed it with Formalin-3 everyday after for a few weeks. The ich is gone. I did this in my planted tank and all my plants are fine my fish are all happy and healthy.

So Clout is my pick for a planted tank. Coppersafe for no plants.

But it all depends on the type of fish you keep too.

Temp should be as high as your fish will allow for. Run some air bubbles to add O2 because warmer water has less O2.
