Ick In My Tank With Molly Fry!

Keep in mind that you may see another round of ich, but it should be fewer spots than last time. The ich seemingly to needs be exposed to the high temps and salt for an entire lifecycle before it all dies off.

So, I had read before about raising the temperature, but it had always scared me, so I hadn't tried it, until now. These poor Molly's were NOT looking good, it's amazing how fast the ick set in. It was literally almost overnight, and they had it really bad. I raised the temp up, added salt, and coppersafe, it's only a few days later and they look WAY better!!! most of the white spots are gone, just a few left here and there, and they seem much happier. I will of course, continue the treatment for a few weeks to make sure its gone. The fry (in their own tank) are very happy and healty, and show no signs of ick (from what I can tell, they are so small its hard to tell) Like I said, the ick set in overnight, the fry were in a breeders net through that night, and were moved to their own tank first thing in the morning, so they weren't exposed too much. I will keep you posted on our progress!

Personally, I wouldn't use coppersafe with fry (or with anything else). Its not necessary. Heat and salt alone will take care of ich.

I didn't use any Coppersafe on the fry at all, just the adults, and a smaller dose than recommended. I had never tried the heat thing before, as it had always scared me, so for obvious reasons, I've never had too much luck with Ick. I have treated fish with Coppersafe and had them get better, it just took a long time in a quarantine tank to work. After seeing how well the salt and heat works, I don't think I'll be using Coppersafe anymore. I really never like the idea of the stuff, but didn't know what else to do! It makes sense though.... I doubt every fish in the wild that gets ick dies, so there has to be a natural way to cure it. I'm sure the fish just swim to somewhere warmer and saltier. Thank you all very much for your help, and I will keep you posted! Also, since the Coppersafe treatment, I have done 2 20% water changes, and didn't ass any back in, and I didn't use a full dose to begin with, so there really shouldn't be much left in there anyways. :good:
