hello i am new to this...anyways, i have recently found the worms that cause ick in my tank. all of my fish are healthy and do not have ick.
a few weeks ago, 3 of my tanks had these same worms (the fish clearly had ick though) and i disinfected EVERYTHING. i cleaned two of the three tanks that had the
worms before and all of the worms were gone and the new fish are healthy. My question: what product can i use to kill the worms and how did they get there?

today i cleaned out one of my 1.5 gallons wich was used for baby feeder guppies. the tank hadn't been cleaned in a while ( no worms were in it at the last clean)
nothing (nets, water from different tank, etc) had touched that water, only thier food. all the babies are healthy. How did the worms get in there???
please help ME!!!!!

Firstly, worms don't cause ich. I think you're seeing planaria? They're often the result of overfeeding, the fish will eat them, if you reduce the food.

Secondly, there's no reason to breed fish for feeding to other fish, it's not good for either party.

Ich, also called white spot disease, is one of the most common protozoan infections affecting aquarium fishes. The scientific name for freshwater ich is Ichthyophthirius multifilis. But what you have is NOT Ich.

I'd start with a nice big water change, with lots of vacuuming the substrate to get rid of as much extra food as possible. Then stop feeding for a couple of days, even several days. Honestly, it won't hurt the fish. Then let us know what happens.

ok so the bigger tank that had them before the fish did hase ick.
what i did:
-emptied the tank
-baked the gravel
- scrubbed the tank and rinsed several times
-soaked the filter and parts in very salty water( aquarium salt)
i just cleaned my 1 gal and i had worms too. im still confused..

can some one tell me clearly what to do and hoe to do it and give me a oggd explanation of what 'it' is.

thank you for the 2 responces

i also want to make it clear that i dont pverfeed my fish.
this might have happened b/c i used to have a baby feeder guppy in there so, yes, i did send in extra
food. the baby is removed and feeding time isnt as plentiful... like it used to be.

** also a note to the person who was upset with me breeding fish:
the feeder guppies are NOT food they are just for watching :) so dont worry about it. :)

sorry about all of my posts but i keep forgetting to add someting...

let me describe the worm:
looks like fish poop but 'twitches'
kinda looks like it has legs.. but thes are way, way TOO small to tell
the are in the gravel
when i first had then they were in my 20 gal on the side of the tank (not on the side this time)

and is it possible to completely get rid of these?
-and-
is there a medicine to put in the water to kill these? ????

also when they were in my 20g, there TINY bugs that i would describe as mites... what were they?
:thanks:

Have you searched for images of "planaria"? It does sound like a general improvement of water quality would help. What are your nitrate readings? What maintenance do you normally do?

The bugs are probably mites or water fleas, they're not uncommon and not harmful.. clever fish might actually manage to nom some occasionally.
