I'm looking for some advise on how to treat ick in a heavily planted tank. I've had good success in the past with using a med called Quick cure, but I didn't have real plants at the time. Is there anything I can do, without using meds?

Thanks

Those treatment shouldn't affect plants, that I know of. Just check the bottle most will tell you if they do or do not harm live plants.

Kordon makes a product called "Rid-Ich" that I have found to be safe for planted aquaria without invertebrates. Its main ingredient is formalin. It has worked well for me in the past.

Thanks for the replies. I do have some Rid - Ich I can use. Do you know if it stains silicon? Quick cure made the water blue and stained the silicon on my older tank.

It stained the plastic of my heater suction cup, but it didn't permanently stain the silicon of the tank. Did turn the water a bluish color which was temporary. Remove the activated carbon from any filtration and I have found that performing a small water change before each treatment really helps. In addition, remember that the life cycle for Ich is approximately 14 days. I highly recommend that in order to prevent future infestations, that you treat for 14 days even if the cysts are no longer present on the fish. It is the only way to be sure.

Good luck to you,

llj :)
