I can't figure out how my fish got it.

Friday I bought 4 new fish but they aren't showing any sign where as the 4 baby guppies that I raised and moved into my bigger aquarium are.  The nursery tank isn't showing any sign of ich and I've only lost 1 adult fish to it as  I'm assuming since this fish's fins where missing and looked like it had been dead for days with a fuzzy look to it.  I've been keeping an eye on the rest of the fish in my big tank and been treating it since Saturday which is when I found the dead guppy.

Stupid question here.  I read on wikipedia that you can add aquarium salt to your aquarium to help with the ich.  Has any one tried this and have an idea about how much to add to a 20 gallon tank?

What are the stats of the infected tank? And unfortunately ich is almost present at all times but only latches on to fish when their immune systems are not doing so well (stress, previous illness, etc.) You're gonna want to do water changes about every 3 days if you are treating with medicine. Just 20% change or whatever you see fit. And may I ask what type of meds you are using if you are using them?

As for the salt yes it can, it helps reduce stress and helps gill function. Looking at the stuff I have now (API brand aquarium salt) Add 1 rounded Tablespoon for every 5 US gallons (20L) If you have live plants make sure you look up if they can take the salt though, some can't. And I'd talk to your LFS just to be sure.

Best of luck!
