One of my little rummy nose has a couple of small white spots on him. Could it be ich? I've been watching it for a couple days to see if it spreads but not yet? What should I do if anything? Thank you, Jaime

It sounds like ich. What are your water readings PH, Nitrite, Nitrate, Amonia and temp?

^ agree check water quality first. If it is Ich... I would up the water temperature to about 82F if poss - make sure all your fish can handle this temp for about 7 days, also look into adding Aquarium salt - again research to make sure this compatible with all your fish. A lot of people will just leave it to the salt and high temperature to sort out the parasite however you may feel adding a medication will also help. When looking into medication make sure you can use it with the fish you have etc... I currently have an outbreak in my tank due to new fish, and one of them my male Apistogramma Agassizii died yesterday and it has now spread to my Pitbull Plecos, I was using Interpet Anti White Spot however I have now changed to the more popular Waterlife Protozin... I hope this one does better!
Best of Luck!

I will check my readings tonight when I get home. The temp is at 78 degrees. I have angels, platys and gourmais in the tank. Is it ok to put salt with them?

does the white spot look like a somewhat large grain of salt stuck in or on the slime coat? If so, that is ich. If not, you probably should look at other possibilities.

OK, I added 10 tbs of salt and up the temp to 82 degrees. I have a 55 gallon tank. It is definitely ich! When I got home tonight it had definitely gotten worse.

All fish seem fine, eating like piggies, swimming everywhere. After adding the salt and raising the temp I did notice a few fish rubbing against the plants. Nothing major.

How often do I add salt to the tank now, and how much? I did buy the ich medicine to treat it but I prefer to do it with salt and higher temp if possible. Or -- Is that just postponing the inevitable? Which is the better option for the fish, medicine or salt and higher temp? This really bites. Thank you for your help.

Sorry I don't have the parameters. I need to get a kit. Anyone you would recommend? My husband bought the tank and set up for me while I was gone traveling for work and they told him we didn't need a kit, just to bring our water in to them to check. Which is nice of them to check at no charge but at moments like this it would be a necessity.

I tested my water and they are as follows

Nitrites 0
Nitrates 0
Ammonia 0
PH 7.0
Alkalinity 40
Hardness 25

As of now the temp is at 80 degrees (I just raised it a little again) and everyone seems fine. Eating swimming etc. The two rummy nose still have their spots on them. Cannot see a difference of less or more spots.

Do I add more salt? How much and how often? Do I do a water change? I bought Quick Cure to have on hand in case I need it. Thank you for your help, Jaime
