I thought that ich was some myth that id never see, but low and behold, last night i noticed white spots on my German Ram, and they were unmistakably ich. I raised to temp to 83 over night and added enough salt to get the tank to 4ppt or .4%. I removed the cory in there and placed him in my sisters tank, as she is home from university. Anything Im missing?

You may have now infected your sister's tank with ich too, although I appreciate the corydoras would not have taken kindly to the salt you added to the GBR tank, so keep a good eye on both tanks.

will do. Didnt even think of that =/ but Im pretty sure I caught it early...I hope

Her fish are invinsible, they usually live in about .5 ammonia cuz she doesnt know how to care for them so well...

Buuut whenever she brings them home i treat them to some crystal clean water

How are you doing with you ich problem , are the symptoms showing in your sisters tank now

Nope, her tank still hasnt shown symptoms. Also, my GBR still shows the white spots, and one of my otos has started to grow white spots, but the treatment will continue this whole week.

ahhh this is driving me crazy. The outbreak seems to be improving but my otos are dropping like flies! Theres 2 dead in 2 days! And i cant find my yoyo loach!!! Is the salt killing them or is it the ich?

So all of my fish look near cured except one yoyo loach. He is absolutely littered with white spots. He keeps rubbing his body all over he gravel in an attempt to rub them off. He was sleekly in his cave all day, and it is only tonight that I have discovered he extent of his illness. I will keep a careful eye on all my fish and continue treatment, hopefully only until next weekend or earlier

ITS CLEARING UP ITS CLEARING UP ITS CLEARING UP!!!!!!!! All my fish look happy once again, and there are maybe 10 ich spots present in the entire tank (all 10 distributed on my 2 loaches). I think they will be healthy in a day or two and ill remove all the salt this weekend (=

Definitely continue the treatment for another week, especially since you still have a fish with visible signs of ich! If you stop treatment to soon you may get hit by a second wave of ich soon after. Gravel vacs are extremely important too during this time, to remove any cysts hiding in there. Your yoyo-loach probably had it worse since he was spending all his time on the gravel, where the free swimmers emerging from the cysts could find him easily.

ALL CISTS ARE GONE!!!!

This calls for celebration!!

and yes, continued treatment for a while

I think this weekend ill slowly begin to fade from treatment...like do a water change to lower the salinity a little and slowly turn down the heater to normal, and in a few weeks it should be back to normal!

Even though the cysts are gone on the fish, there will still be ich in the tank, you need at least 10 days of raised temperatures of >84F to kill all the ich spores for sure.
