So, I had a Betta die this passed sunday from Ich. It was rather devastating. Now my red crowntail has it. He has never come into contact with anything from theinfected tank, and I have done his water changes on the same schedule as my Betta "Blue" whom has been healthy for a year. I don't know what I am doing wrong. I do 50% water changes every other day. I feed them 3 times a week. I always use conditioner/dechlorinater in the water. I spend quality time with them, even let them flare at the mirror for a few minutes a day. Help me! I don't want to lose another one!

I used a product called Cupramine by seachem to treat one of my bettas. If you can get a hold of that product it will knock it on the head fast and is less toxic than copper sulphate. Give your gravel a good clean too and take out any snails you may have in your tank before you dose and it wouldn't hurt to cover the tank up so its nice and dark while treating. My fish was clear in 4 days and I am very please it has never come back again(touch wood).

I will definitely do that as I am extremely fond of this betta, and I am heartbroken right now. It just trips me out because my other betta is so old and i don't do anything different between them, but one is sick and the other is not.

Best way to treat Ich is put him in a different tank, treated with Ich Cure or any good Ich medicine AND raise the temperature slowly to about 84F. Keep him in that high temp for 2 weeks and he will be cured. Ich can't handle high temps so it cures faster when treated in hotter water. The ich eggs will land on the botton get in your gravel and rehatch thus ich will continually return. I would toss out the gravel in his home tank or I would leave it in there with no fish and get that water up to 90F for 2 weeks to kill those hatched ich eggs. The eggs won't die in high heat until they hatch. That is why it takes 2 weeks.

When you do water changes be sure to get the water the SAME temp as the existing water. Ich is often caused as result of a sudden water temperature change beyond the amount they can handle. Ich can be caused by any other forms of stress as well.

The good news about ich is it is easily cured but slowly raise his water temp to at LEAST 84. 86 would be better.
Good luck.
