I don't know if ICH is what I am dealing with. I have a 55 gal that has been up and running for almost 2 years. Did water change and thorough vacuuming before I left on Vacation. I also introduced a Bio-wheel filter. When I came home a week later I was pulling fish after fish out of the tank. Water parameters are all good. Temperature was low. Increased it. Since I have been home (about a week) I have been pulling fish after fish out of this tank. Fish that I have had for the entire time I have had this tank have died. I am afraid that the Ghost Knife fish I have will soon be a victim- NEED HELP ASAP! :shout: Treating for ICH because I noticed the little crystal "salt" granules on the fish. Lost upside down cat today-sad  Please Help!

As long as your sure your stats are OK treat the ich. Sounds very very bad to be Ich though. Are you sure your ammonia level isnt high ?

What you using to treat the fish for Ich ? Keep temp up during treatment and increase aeration also.

Temp is up. Using Quick Cure. Checked ammonia and other stats-all is well. Aeration is up. Vacuumed again and did 10% water change. Treating with Quick Cure every other day (do not want to OD). Any clue to any other ailments? Possible issues with new filtration? I am at a loss. Have another tank-30 gal- hardly any problems. Always issues with larger tank. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx.

Did you change your filter media or possible get a whole new filter I'm not sure what your implying? If it looks like the fish have been sprinkled with salt it's ick. Fallow the instructions that came with the med. Also remove filter carbon if you have any.

Also how often have you done water changes?
Have you removed the carbon from the filter when you started treating for ICH?
Are you sure that some of these fish you have are not just dying from old age?

Rmoved the carbon. I do water changes every other week. I did replace the filter system with a whole new system-went with Bio-Wheel. I put the media in the new filter when I replaced it and let it run like that for a few days. I introduced 2 new Angels to the tank which seemed ok. Then it was mass devastation. I can see one fish dying of old age but I lost 3 or more a day! The angels lasted a week before they went. I am using the ICH Med sparingly because I have a catfish, ghostknife and what's left of my tetras. All are sensitive to the ingredients. The "salt" symptoms seem to have stopped. Ghost Knife was a little restless-but has seemed to quiet down today. It is devastating to lose that many fish especially the older ones.

Every other week? You should change your water 15-20% every week for a clean tank. I sadly havent heard of a "Bio-Wheel" but thats just me.

Ok yea I just googled the bio wheel, wow, im surprised I havent seen this at my pet stores...

Thanks for all the help! My stats are:
PH-7.2
Alkalinity-80
Chlorine-0
Nitrite-0
Nitrate-35
Amononia-0
What's left of fish are earing and seem well. Still no "salt" symptoms-Thanx

ICH is a bad thing to have in a tank. All my fish died :byebye: . I know how you feel.

Thank you for the sympathy. It was very upsetting when I lost my Hachets. When I got them I didn't know they were jumpers, one jumped out of the tank landed on the floor where the cats found him. When I found him he was a few scales shy. I put him back in the tank hoping for the best. He was a little listless at first but soon bounced back-a little bald. Anyway most of the fish(including the hachets) I've had since I set up the tank-2 years. Yes, it is very upsetting especially when you can't figure what is going on and you can't help. BGK was one of mt first fish also and has grown quite a bit. He has never shown an interest in the tetras. He has only eaten one thing-brine shrimp-shows no interest in anything else. Everything I've read made it sound as if ICH wasn't that bad add treatment and everything will be ok. Well it was total devastation for me and I see for you too. Thank you again for the sympathy and my condolences to you for your loss. :/

I'm not trying to upset you, only help....
How big is he at the moment?

Thank you-did not upset me. He is almost a foot long. He is my favorite-he eats out of my hand. Lost another Tetra today thought this nightmare was over :shout: Stiill treating for ICH-still am not sure if this is what my problem is. Don't see any symptoms of anything else.

First of all I'm really sorry about your fish. I completely understand you're feels about losing the Hatchets. They are wonderful little fish.

As far as QuICK Cure. I won't use it anymore. Not only do I worry about my plants but it's not exactly the best for tetras or scaleless.

I've just gone through a very bad case of Ich myself. I started with the Quick Cure then went to Paragon II and THEN I found Ich Attack made by Kordon. It's safe for all fish and plants. Not sure how available it would be in your area but you can probably order it online with one day shipping.

Good luck.
