Hi all. My Blackmoor (Mr Big) appears to have ich. I know this is a cold water tank but the question is specifically about ich medication and snails and so I felt I was more likely to get lots of answer here. This afternoon I found him with white spots that looks like grains of salt on his head and body (even one on his eye :( ) There are not many yet so hopefully I have caught it in time and he definatly didn't have any signs of it yesterday.

Tank size 150L
Ammonia 0ppm
Nitrite 0ppm
Nitrate 5ppm
Weekly 38L water changes
Most recent addition was 1 blue oranda erm.... 3 weeks ago?
Current stocking is 1 juvi blue ordanda, 1 1 year old ryukin, 1 1 year old blackmoor, 4 danios, 6 white cloud mountain minnows, 1 apple snail (Churchill).

The tank is very over filtered in order to cope with all the waste and stats have been stable for some time. Big is showing no symptoms of flicking, rubbing etc. He is eating as normal and is not acting lethargic. None of the other fish appear to have symptoms.

The problem mainly is Churchill the apple snail. I have never had to treat for ich before so am unfamliliar with the medications. Is there a med available in the UK that will treat ich succesfully without killing the snail? Or should I remove the snail during treatment? In which case would he not bring Ich back into the tank as soon as I put him back in anyway? Thanks in advance.

Can you issolate the snail.
You would have to ask in tropical discussion if there any whitepot meds you can use with snails.

Your tanks overstocked.

Thanks for the reply. I am aware the tank is over stocked (though not by much from what I've been told on specialist cold water sites). The 150L is a temporary fix and is vast improvment on what they were in before. I will try asking over there as well. The snail can be isolated and will be before I put any meds in first thing tomorrow (pet shops are all shut here). My worry is that if I don't treat the snail with something I will just have a never ending cycle.

The parasite will die without a host.
Don't think snails get whitespot.

Sorry posted on wrong thread.
