I Wonder What Made Him Do It?

My gold hm boy the one that bites his own tail and hasn't had a tail since I got him at the end of last year, he has never really made a nest, he's never looked that good either so I can't even think about spawning him really, sadly.

All the boys are due a water change today. So it's not like his water is sparkling clean.

Last night, out of the blue, totally at random he blew a massive nest. He hadn't seen any other fish or had anything different or special done to him. How random is that?
