Well I read the storys, but never seen any dyed fish and was hoping never to as well.

WELL today I popped to a LFS (witch I want to name but not shore if I'm alowed.) Anyway, all was fine was enjoying looking at the fish, not been to this perticular shop for age's.

And then suddenly I spotted them Bronze Corys with bright read, by there tail fins, quite a large area. Well my blood boild. Carryed on looking round hoping it was a one off, but no there in the last tank where Adolfo Cory where, I ashuming ther should'nt have bright orange on them.

I could'nt beleave it, well I was so angry I spoke to a member of staff, I asked why they where selling dyed fish, she seemed to know nothing about what I was talking about, or even to dirrect me to someone that would. I asked fot the manager at the till, but he was'nt there, they said the head of the fish department was, but that not good anothe for me.

So I going to write a letter of complant, with the link to DeathByDyeing.Org in it.

I told the member of staff I talked to, some fish are Acid dipped, I said "I mean, would you liked to be acid dipped." should have seen the look I got.

Adolfi cories with a patch of bright colour just behind the head? Yep, that's normal.

And Bronze Cories (c. aeneus) come in a wide range of non-dyed colours including the 'laser' varieties which have bright orange or green areas.

It's possible that neither of the fish you saw were dyed at all.

But well done for the sentiment!

Well done with the sentiment even if it turns out she was wrong? Insulting or accusing someone of something then being wrong because you weren't more careful in your accusation is not okay even if the sentiment was good intentions.

I'd suggest finding out whether they really were dyed before flying off the cuff like that. Some people take things so seriously then they overreact and act like it was reasonable to do and it isn't.

The sentiments have lead to actions which might get innocent people in trouble. I find it better to at least be certain of what I accuse someone of, not merely a sentiment.

well I admit I was wrong on one.

But the one's I was most anoyed about, was the bronze cory, it had a Bright red slode right by the tail, very simular to the pic on death by dyeing.

they where labled as Red cory and where £6, to be honest they looked terrerbley un natral, I don't think I seen as bright red on a guppy.

The letter will be diplamatic, and if it turns out there not, then an anpology will follow.

I've got to say you people in the U.K. are awfully spoiled. Here I can't find a store without dyed fish. Every single fish store I've been to have dyed or genetically modified fish to some degree. Most even with a tank dedicated to "Fruit tetras" or "Painted glass fish".
At first I was kind of upset, but seeing how many stores had them and how many specimens each had, I knew that a letter probably wouldn't do anything but spout a BS response. I guess I should probably let my distaste in their choices be known, but it seems like most of the employees wouldn't even know what was wrong with it.

On a bright note (if there is such a thing in this sort of topic) the painted glass fish at the lfs here aren't selling. Many of them are already starting to fade they have been here so long. I am hoping the owner won't restock a loss item. Other than carrying those particualr fish, he has a great store.

I'll have to ask him about it when I go in next time. I'll see why he carries them at all and whether he plans to continue.

Ferrikins, you thought you were doing right, I can certainly respect that. I would rather that than people seeing wrong and doing nothing. Remember to stay civil or no one will listen to you. I would try to research Red Cories before going mad. Ask for the scientific name. Make sure they are dyed before you take it further.
Then you will KNOW beyond a shadow of a doubt that you are right. And what better feeling is there?

Edit: I popped over to Planet Catfish...I found a picture of a Red Stripe Cory. Is this what you saw?

Is this what you saw????? If so, then what what I can translate from dutch, then it may well have been a dyed bronze cory.
