Well if anyone here lives on CapeCod, MA then you already know.

Well there was a storm, and the power went out. I was very concerned about my fish and I was a mess.

NORMALLY, if your power goes out how long does it go out for? hour or two, or at the most three?

Our power, since I am lucky, has been out since 730pm Saturday night and was turned on early this morning around 430am EST.

Lesson learned: Have surge protectors on filters, and second, have a small generator on heater or battery backup.

Ona side note, I am lucky that tjhe baby chiclids are fine, and my school of tiger barbs are fine........(two different tanks)

I know the feeling when you get a power cut its nasty !!! I work for the local power distribution company and deal with fixing the problem that causes the power to go off, one thing i learnt is if your also lucky enough to have a gas cooker or boiler that doesn't need electric, warm up some water on the hob, put it into a empty 2ltr / 1 ltr Pepsi / soft drinks bottle, put the lid back on the bottle then put the bottle into the tank, helps keep the water warm in your time of need, and can be re filled with warm water as an when needed. you can also get little air tablets if u need them to produce oxygen if needed,i normally keep a few just in case.

or not the best option but we all know how kids love blowing bubbles into their drinks through a straw and you know how it normally drives you mad, think how many times you've told them not to stop playing with their drink like that, this is your chance to be a hero a few bored kids, straws and a fish tank = lots of bubble making to be had, maybe by the time the elec is back on they will be so fed up blowing bubbles they will never blow bubbles in their drink again !!!!!

this isn't however any use for the filter problem but if you have an external one you can do a slight mod to the outlet tube and add a hand / manual pump connection that u can manually suck the water through the filter and into the tank, this is hard work however, good punishment for those children that are being naughty while the elec is off and complaining there bored as there is no TV or Internet. oh and fed up of blowing bubble, why not turn it into a family time together lol.
