About dozing the meds, do I add meds everyday?

Whatever the instructions say It really does vary from one medication to another. For example, my anti-fungal/bacterial medication requires dosing on three days in a row, at varying doses. On the other hand, my anti-whitespot medication requires one dose every day, with water changes in between each dose (although I dosed every other day).

Many medications are toxic to fish, so it is best to not overdose.

I used to add every other day but would like to clarify. You said to do one more treatment after the spots are gone, does that mean 4-7 days of meds again?

Yes: the medication does not affect the spot, it affects the things which the spots become after they fall off (which are too small for you to see), so it is important to do one more treatment course after the spots are gone. Finally my internet's back!

Problem is, my medication has no instructions! It only tells you how much meds for how much water. Just searched the net and people use it every other day. Shall continue with dosing every other day then!

Found out my black neons have fin rot. I have a feeling it because I didn't use back the old tank water The medication I'm currently using treats both ich and fin rot so I hope it works!


My dad didn't start my tank right and I didn't do any prior research. When my fish started dying and I found out why, my dad wouldn't do WCs and I couldn't due to health reasons. I'm really paying the price for it now

Yeah it says on the bottle. It's a local brand - ocean free so I doubt you'd heard of it. I do have one medication just for white spot but I'm not sure if I can use them both at the same time.

If you're wondering about what's in it, the white spot med consists of a concoction of drugs, namely formaldehyde, malachite green (oxalate or chloride) and methylene blue. And the one I'm using now most likely has acriflavin.

Formaldehyde can kill or harm the filter bacteria, so please don't overdose on that one. I recommend a large water change between each dose. Malachite green is the usual for whitespot. Meth blue will kill fungus (and filter bacteria). I have no idea what acriflavin is, I've never heard of it..

That is a very potent mix. I really do recommend water change between each dose or there's a good chance that it will harm the fish. It is also best to not mix medications for this reason (also some will react badly with each other if mixed.

Yep I've been doing water changes (25-30%) before I dose. Right now I'm not using the white spot one cause of the fin rot issue though. Thanks KittyKat for your help !
