...any tips

iv been reading up and seems cherrys are the way to go . any good places to get them from ? all info welcome even if you tell me not to bother .

big thanks d

Any half decent fish shop will have them. Worth checking online though, flea-bay and such like. My LFS want £3.00 each for them but there is a hobby breeder near by selling them for 50p each or five for £2.00 !!.  I am new to fish keeping  but asked the same question to the old dude in the fish shop just the other day and he recommened getting 10-20 to begin with along with java moss for the fry to hide in.

and nothing that will munch them in your tank of course.

good luck,

Ok. You'll need:

  • Flour
  • Eggs
  • Bread Crumbs
Coat the shrimp in flour on both sides, then drop in the eggs (cracked in a bowl and beaten). Lift the shrimp out, shake off excess, and roll it in the bread crumbs, shaking off the extra. Cook as desired. *tip.. add coconut for a nice tropical taste*

On a serious note, I can't help much with breeding shrimp as I've never been able to for some reason... Even Cherries hate me too much to breed in my tank...

:) , i tried to edit it but couldn't for some reason and normal mention my poor spelling in my signature but cant on here till 50 odd posts :)

back to shrimp , can i just keep them on there own ? do i need other fish in there for waist ? if so what fish ?

iv been tiring to find some local but had know luck yet but they may be in Wednesday :)

iv found them online but all the sellers dont seem very helpfull so im going to wait .

I am actually just starting getting into keeping freshwater dwarf shrimp.  I indeed suggest what you mentioned, one of the cherry species, I am buying some oranges tomorrow!!! They look pretty cool, there is Blue Rili, Yellow, Clear.

cheers , if you ever have any tips as you learn or even have any interesting ones for sale please give me a should

hello . right then i got some nano cherry's and put them in and they all got gobbled in 3 days :( , i was told they would be ok . all my fish are small ish but one way or another there gone . so now iv set up a small 11l tank for some new ones , my question is should i put a fish or 2 in with them and what should i get that very gental on the small shrimp ? or are the shrimp ok on there own ?

any input very gratefully reserved :)

cheers d

If keeping shrimp with fish, always get the shrimp first and breeding and established in a well planted (even overgrown) tank. Almost all fish will munch on shrimp in either only picking off the juvi's or even gulping down the adults.
Shrimp are fine on their own, if anything you may find they out breed the confines of their tank quicker without any predation from a fish or two.
If you go for any of the other colour morphs in cherry shrimp aside from the hardiest and most common red, keep in mind that these other morphs have been selectively line bred to establish the consistant colour, and thus have a smaller gene pool and are a bit fussier with regards to water to than the standard red.

Did you see them get eaten? They're really good at hiding..

know but i could see 2 of them hiding for a bit but now cant find them ,. its possible there still there but im fairly sure there not , i did find on dead one and dug him out the gravel and before i got him out he was pecked in to 3 bits

thanks for info ,. il be sticking to red ones for a bit , do you think i need to have lots of  plants if there's no fish ?   cheers d

if you are trying to breed shrimp, do so in their own tank for sure.  shrimp love plants and make sure you have plenty of moss too!

cheers , so they like the plants anyway ? not just to hide , should i get the moss and plants in there first an im guessing real plants is the best bet ? , cheers d

I edited the title for you. :)

What are your goals for breeding the shrimp? Is it just for fun, or because you want to see if you can successfully alter the coloration of the stock?
