I have 3 Phantom tetra soon to be 6, a Ruby Shark, 3 snails and 4 ghost shrimp ( you can never have enough ghost shrimp ) All in a 20 gallon. And I want to add more. It just look so empty. I plan on upgrading later but for now all my fish are small. I think my shark is about 3in. What should I add after I get my Phantoms...maybe some small tetras umm...I don't know what to add. Or maybe I have enough??? I hope not. I mean How do you know enough is enough????

You have to remember that its not just a case of the tank looking empty, you have to think about how much waste (ammonia) your fish are producing and in an overstocked tank your filter will struggle to cope and your fish will most likely die if your not careful.

Oh okay thanks Andy

Sheesh, that island looks great!

Hey, I noticed your other threads and was sorry to hear you lost your new tiger barbs. A 20 gallon tank is a great size to get started in the hobby and you sound like just the right sort of person, with some background of your mother having a tank and being interested in the species you have and all, to really be a good fishkeeper.

Just wanted to say that we see dozens and dozens of people each month not really having had access to the right sort of information to successfully get the tank startup process right. You've stumbled on a really amazing forum of true hobbyists and if you stick to it you'll now have access to great information. The articles they've sent you off to read in our Beginners Resource Center are really good and you can read some of them multiple times to help pull out all the information. Also be sure to read others threads as that's a really fun way to slowly pick up things.

Getting the right sort of water test kit and learning about the Nitrogen Cycle and then about both "Fish-In" and "Fishless" cycling are core aspects of the hobby. Good luck working it all out and hope we'll see you around!
