The fish would be placed in a bucket that is the same size as the tank with the gravel filter heater etc.

Go for it say how nice the tank will look, with some nice fish in it, and the bigger the tank the better.

I voted no coz, sorry to be a bore, but its your parents place I take it, and there will be plenty of time for you to get larger tanks when you have your own place. Besides, when you do fly the nest, its a lot easier to move a littlun than a bigun

too risky. what if they say, it's your fault you cracked it, so your fish will have to live in a bucket forever? also if your parents are anyhting like mine they will KNOW you did it on purpose cos you've jsut been asking for a new tank and they'll connect the two things.

Ask why you can't have it. The only way to find out why is by asking. It might turn out to be something like they don't think you can look after it, or afford all the stuff. My parents were the same, I told them about all the different types of fish I could have in it, how nice it would look etc. But cracking it is not a good idea, its a waste of a good tank.

another thing about cracking the tank if they do take it then there going to think what happens when a 20 galon breaks.

also why the hell would you have the fish out the tank completely empty for you to crack it, unless your parents are stupid there going to smell something fishy there!!

I'm with Paul -- your parents weren't born yesterday! (I mean, if they were they'd be a bit young to have you! :D )

I could see your parents telling you that if that's how you treat your things, then obviously you don't need them, etc., and that'd put an end to your fishkeeping for a while. You get my drift.

If I was your parent and your tank "accidentally" cracked you would have to "Accidentally" get rid of your fish. :/ Maybe give them to that friend of yours with the bigger tank, since you wouldn't have a tank anymore. :sly:

What fish are in the 5 gallon? And what fish do your parents like. I know my mum likes angels, I don't have a big enough tank but if the space and oppertunity comes up, I know I'd use that against her :shifty: .

ahh...I said okay if you want but its a waste of a tank...just wait until the oppurtunity comes that you would need it more...I always found it helps to say:

I found it in the neighbors trash

My friend HAD to get rid of his tank, otherwise he would throw it away!

orr my favorite!

It followed me home, can I keep it?!?!

I voted no... but not because you should be happy with what you have... but because reasoning is always a better approach than manipulation...

and no Im notta parent :p

Um, call me stupid, but why can't you just get the 20 gallon and then keep it in the basement or something till they let you set it up or you move out or whatever? I mean, tell you parents that you would really like to have a bigger tank, and how they cost so much money, and you understand that you can't have it set up now but you'd like to get it for in the future. How can they argue with that?

parents arnt ogers and neither are they stupid

did u do the normal 'teen' thing and throw a fit when they said no? did you ask in an adult manner?

best way around a parent is to act more adult, normaly butters them up a treat, but smashing a tank isnt the way to go, as someone pointed out parents normaly take on the veiw as 'well if its broke they cant be lookin after it right, so why should i let him/her have another?'

if you explain it wont cost u any more... a 20gal dosnt take up that much room, and you will enjoy ur hobby more (in an adult way instead of I WANT!) im sure they might listen to u

I gotta go with the parents on this one.

You have to respect the fact that they might be afraid (and seeing how most people on this forums are, they ahve the right to be) that you will get this 20 gallon, then in 2 months you'll see a 50 gallon for sale, and so on...

Not everybody wants a LFS in their house (not that there's anything wrong with that :p)

When you move out, you can have all the tanks you want. Try talking to them calmly qand explain why you want a tank, but cracking is no option, as previously said. And 5 gallon tanks are very useful, you'll regret not having it in a near future!

I voted No, sorry mate..but No means No and you really should follow your parents wishes ( even though they seem unfair )

Ask your friend to hold on to the tank for you and maybe in time your parents will see things your way...

Best of luck !!
