Hi I was just cleaning out my garage and came across an old 10 gallon tank that I had. I was thinking about putting a betta in it because i really like bettas. I have never kept a betta before so I need some advice. If I were to make some DIY dividers how many bettas could I keep in it? I was thinking 2 or 3. I think I have enough gallons to have 3 bettas because that would leave each fish with a little over 3 gallons each. My only concern is that I woulden't have enough space ( wigth, lenght) for the bettas to thrive and be happy. That's what makes me think I should only keep 2 bettas. What do you guys think? I just want to make it clear that I will do about 10-20% water changes each week and that I have a filter and thermometor that are both good for a 10 gallon tank.

Personally, I would just split it for two. So if it's a standard 20"LX10"WX12"H; each will have 10"LX10"W.

Thank you. What I will do is divide the tank so that each fish will have 5 gallons all to its self and I will have to figure out how to make a DIY divider. I was thinking about using plastic canvas, but I don't know what to use as a frame. The plastic canvas would make it so that the water would circiulate through out the whole tank. I also want the divider to be removable. If anybody has any links to making DIY dividers I would apreciate it. Thank you.

There's a DIY tank divider link in the FAQ section, but I didn't do mine that way (seems way too complicated for me).

What I did was get some report cover holder (you know, the slide ones) and silicon glued those holders onto my tank. I just cut the plastic craft mesh things to the size of the tank and once the holders were dried, just slided those plastic mesh things in. :) Works beautifully. It is done to both my 5 gallon tank and my 10 gallon tank.

I would recommend using black report covers just because it looks nicer. I used black on my 5 gallon. I used the green ones on that 10 gallon tank only because that was the only color I had left, and I am a poor college student. The green is not that bad though, because it goes with the plants. :)
