What about a Shoal of Silver Dollars.
Or a Gold Severum - I have a large Gold Severum and he is stunning - Something like that would make a stunning centerpiece - he's never bothered any of the other fish in my tank but I dont have fry in my cichlid tank.
I wouldnt risk an Angel they will definitely eat fry and small stuff.

I would LOVE a gold severum but I think they'd eat the smaller fish. :dunno:

There is the possibility that they would. I think the neons would be ok for a time until the severum grew larger - they end up being anywhere around 10-14 inches. The fry would be in trouble from the off I would say.

A school of 6 Silver Dollars would look nice though and they are very active and grow quite large.

A sevrum is not a good choice as they will eat smaller fish quite happily when larger. Mine love chasinf river shirmp when i put them in and there the size of neons and bigger.

Your best chice would be a nice shoal of angels, get aorund 6 of them at the smallest size you can find.

starting them small will enable you (with a bit of luck) to keep them safely with the neons.

other than angels i can't really think of anything else, silver dollars would probable be ok being vegies but personally i think there ugly when larger!!

You could try a pair of kribs, or i think lamprologus (can't rember whats species, white ones!!) get along fine in a community

get another clown loach

you can also get a Festivum Cichlid pair and a Keyhole Cichlid pair(both profiles are in the fish index),
hmm, and once you get the molly fry grown youcould try a small severum or two.
EDIT:what about a few pairs of Apistogrammas?or bolivian rams?

watch out for festivums. Mine ripped up an angels fins and killed it within 5 minutes.
lamps would take over your tank. Silver Dollars would be awesome. Rainbow cichlids are larger (5"), really personable, and really peaceful and colorful. They also change colors

I think I am favoring the angels so far...My mom has always liked them so maybe I will give them a go. Hope all works well.

The angels will eat fry though if that's a problem for you. My very first tank ever had swordtails and angels. The angels would follow the swordies and eat the babies as they were being born

If you got clown loaches you would need at least 4 :)
I know. I have 2 now, but I didn't buy them, they came with the 55 gallon my mom bought at a yardsale and I just haven't had the time nor money to pick them up a few friends. But I am thinking about getting like 2 clown loaches and then maybe 4 angels. :dunno:

Eating fry isn't a problem. I just don't want them to harass my mollies and pecking at them for fry when they are all out.
