After looking at some of these nano tanks I wanna plant mine now it has no fish or anything in it at the moment (doesn't even have water) now i'm wondering if I can just chuck some water in and a light (I have a spare 13W for it) and be able to grow anything?

Now I don't want anything great I would prefer not to have any of those Co2 things and stuff but i'm guessing you need some sort of ammonia to fertilize the plants? I don't have a clue.

So how do I start it off? Is the light bright enough to grow some stuff? What plants are easy as anything to put in and just grow with just light and nothing else?

I know java moss does I had that growing in there when I had a couple of fish in it ages ago.

Its just my quarantine tank so its sitting there empty and I just wanna set it up and have some plants in it so it looks alright and not just sitting there all boring might put some shrimps in it if anything.

So yes all help is appreciated in starting me off thanks.

it isnt much lighitng you have, so anubias, elodea densa and java moss will be ok, if you want more plants then upgrade to around a 20w light.

if you have fish, then you may not need ferts, but if only shrimp, then get something like seachem flourish.

Ok so I don't wanna put fish in it as its my quarantine tank just wanna make it look good.

I've just found another 13W light and can hook both up above the tank so there will be 26W all together.

So what plants could I have with that much light really wanna try some hair grass so will that work or some riccia?

Also what sort of gravel would I need?

hair grass and riccia would survive in that light. You may need CO2 injection with riccia, so you may have to leave it floating if it doesnt survive.

nutrient rich substrate is better, how much are you willing to pay?

As cheap as possible :hyper: i'm in Australia so stuff might differ if your from somewhere else so yeah.

By nutrient rich substrate whats that mean? Is it just like a dirt like you put in normal gardens except made for fish tanks sorta thing?

yep.

plants will survive without it but this means they will rely more on nutrients in the water column, so it is always better to have it. tetraplant or something like JBL aquabasis is cheap:
