So exciting i found 2 fry (1 is in a fry net) in my tank today(my first time i ve had fish babies :p), not sure if there is more, or if there will be more :S. i think my balloon platy is the mother.
Does anyone know if i should be expecting some more platy babies, and if i should try and catch the other fry, as it s difficult, or if i should see if it can survive in the tank.
I have 2 balloon platys, 2male guppies and 4 female guppies, and 2 cardinals and 2 glowlights and a mountian shrimp. and 2 baby platys :p
please needing comments/advise/info! :) thanks

usually a female gives birth to more than 2 babies, maybe they were eaten by the other fish or maybe they'll come from now on... :)

keep us updated with pictures if you spot more :)

Thankyou, do u think i should try and catch the other fry so it doesnt get eaten?

how many plants do you have in that aquarium? if there are enough (especially surface ones like riccia) it can hide there

but the best thing to do is put pregnant females in different tanks till they give birth, that way the fry will gave bigger survival chances

Thanks for replies!
I have 3 quite big bushy type plants that i have spotted 2 extra fry in them. I also have java moss, however only some as i put it in yesterday, and it has not grown yet.
I havent got a spare tank, i could get a small one from a local fish shop however. how long do u reckon the platy will be giving birth for as i would have to get it 2moro after college.

Usually pops the lot all at the same time, but then will have another batch in4-5 weeks (without a male as she can store enough sperm for approx. 6 batches of fry).

If you want to keep the fry a 18"x10"x10" tank should be big enough for them but you will need hood, heater and (sponge) filter (so they don't get sucked in).
